I just purchased a Erik Buell Racing ecm for my 08R. This is my 4th season on the stock battery. Never had an issue with battery going dead. I installed the new ecm and went for a short ( 2 mile ) ride and then put the bike up. Two days later went to start my bike and the batteries dead. Does anyone have some info on what the Erik Buell Racing ecm changes with the charging system? Thanks, Scott |

4 years on a battery is pretty good. I had the same problem with my 09. It seems the Erik Buell Racing ECM has a different electrical management system. The fans come on early and a number of other things. This has been acknowledged on this site by 'anonymous' (an Erik Buell Racing person). I sold my Erik Buell Racing ECM last year. In the last year my thinking has evolved, the stock ECM forces you to ride the bike at higher RPM's and may be what is keeping the electrical system up. The Erik Buell Racing ECM will let you cruise at 3000 rpm and not complain while the stock ECM will complain at almost anything under 4000 rpm. I am now going to test my theory, I ordered another ECM from Erik Buell Racing asking for stock except fueling. I will be keeping the RPMs up this time. I hope the Erik Buell Racing ECM's electricals are enough like the stock ECM at 4000 RPM's to keep the electrical system up. A lot of people here use battery tenders, I don't. |

Bike in garage, it's plugged into battery tender. Takes 2 seconds, costs next to nothing and I've never had an issue. |

Thanks for the info. I have a tender, just never had to use it except in the winter during storage. I'll try that for a while. Really love the new ecm though. Scott |
