I'm wondering what the valve in the 12's muffler is made of???I used to have a FZR 1000 that Yamaha called the EXUP valve that was also cable controled.Sooner or later that cable rusted and so did the valve and it froze up rendoring it useless,and I had to replace it because the bike didn't run right any longer.I wonder what Buell has done to insure that it has a descent life expectancy.  | ||

The blade will be made of a hard steel, the environment needs it! BTW, EXUPs are notorious for seizing. It dates back to YPVS days - heat + moving parts + road grime - and Honda/Suzi's clone suffers the same. Your service people have stiffed you as it is definately a service item. Biggest problem fixing them is heat seized fasteners, wire wool and petrol does the rest. It's hard to protect parts like this due to the heat so regular cleaning & servicing is the only way forward. | ||

The article on the XB12's in Cycle World says the valve body is "an expensive stainless steel investment casting". It doesn't say what the blade is made out of. | ||

Yeah the Yamaha was outside the muffler.That differs from the buell.But the condensation is still in the muffler at times and to what I understand there is bearings in there as well. My old FZR 1000 costed me exhausts after warranty.I wonder if the 12 muffler will last two years without fouling up. | ||

Not letting it bother me Blake just a thought of something that I know Yamaha didn't do to well with. |
