i was riding on some twistys and came up on a straight. pinned it in 3rd. as i shifted to 4th, it felt weird, like the clutch wasn't disengaging as the back end was wagging. before i realized it, i had shifted, and was back at WOT. end of the straight so i applied the brakes for the next turn, and almost got sideways cuz of my own oil slick. rode it off the road into some grass, and towed it home. some how i managed to keep it upright and not die. 9994 miles, and i don't think Dean's MT-1 is to blame. my guess is the balance shaft gears/teeth. i never once saw the oil # light and the the CEL only in the cold of winter (freezing temps) either way, i had just picked it up from a clutch leak fix, and now it's back in for God knows how long im consoling my self with an 07 XB12X until this one is fixed |

It is sad to see that kind of problem with low mileage. I hope for your sake it is under warranty. Keep up posted to the failure that caused the cases to crack as they did. Matthew |

Bummer Matt I'm betting on an oil pump, from the pix. Hopefully not too bad under that cover. Doesn't look like it damaged the case... Thought water pump at first, too low- Oil pump is under the top cone in your pix, where the crack starts. Bottom balancer behind the lower cone. Warranty or DIY? garantía hasta el final i'd like to correct you on this Doesn't look like it damaged the case... the right side (water pump) case is cracked thru-and-thru and i ran it about a quarter mile all the while engine oil was spewing out over my right boot, the bike and the road. and that's bad for the entire powerplant to run without oil. tho i'd think that the main crank bearings and valves would be the first to fail upon loss of oil flow/pressure ...
