Hello Buelligans! I am excited to say I will be spearheading an effort by Doc's BRAG to provide the first annual Buelligan's Ride and Raft. This event will be on or near Memorial Day in 2004. Ideally we would hold it on 29 through 31 (Memorial Day). Here is the poop. Herb's Wild Wolf Inn has raft rides down the Wolf River, Wisconsin's very own Outstanding National Resource Water. Sunday or Saturday floats can be arranged for 1.5 to 8 hour trips. Five dollar per person deposit is required on Holidays. Rafting charges are made per person and by length of trip. Rental is anywhere from $7.10 to $23.70 per person (plus tax - subject to change). Two to three can fit in one boat (under 400 pounds). Safety gear is provided. No open containers, littering or trespassing allowed. Nearby are miles and miles of twisty county roads running through the pine and oak forests "up north" over and between some nice glacial tills. If you prefer not to float you may ride and ride and ride without any boredom in sight. Within the immediate vicinity are several Native American communities with lodging, casinos and meals available... including the Mole Lake Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, the Menominee Nation and Forest County Potawotami. Herb's is located immediately north of the Menominee Nation on Highway 55. Room rates vary at the Wild Wolf Inn and at Buettner's Motel on the Wolf, based on the number of people and days. Listed currently at $46 for one double bed to $59 for two double beds. Sofa and sleeper are cheaper. River House with three bedrooms also available. Nearby are various US Forest Service campgrounds (cheap!). If you are interested... please e-mail me at fishguts103@hotmail.com OR post here. I need to know which weekend is best for most. Then I can start with arrangements at Herb's. Before Memorial Day: May 21 through 23rd. Memorial Day: May 29 through 31st. After Memorial Day: June 4 through 6th. Thanks, Charlotte Antigo Chamber of Commerce |

Hi Charlotte, This sounds like fun, good luck with the organizing. It has been said that getting us "Buelligans" together or commiting to get together is like herding cats. My wife and I organized a couple of rallys here in Breckinridge Co. So I know what you have ahead of you. That being said may I add a sugestion. How about making it Ride, Raft and Road America? The AMA races will be June 3-6. So I would vote for Memorial Day weekend. And then any one who is intrested could ride to the races the following weekend. Just a thought. Sounds like a damn fine idea, and a great place to do some riding with fellow Buelligans. I'll have to pass on the rafting part also. This thin desert blood would never thicken up enough to keep me warm, even in a wet suit. (pee included) But I'm up for the riding!!!! |

Char... Sounds like a GREAT idea!!!! I'd vote for something a little later in the year. While the waters run the best in the spring, it's just too iffy with weather (temps, rain, etc). Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I'll have more time after the football season to get involved in another Buell related event. |

Bubba, Even MY snow is gone by then - well most of it anyway to be able to ride. ONLY KIDDING - There is only one year I can remember in 33 years that it snowed in June. CJ - too cold to raft in MAY - are you nuts, the water would be perfectly crisp that time of year. If your coming over to my island with the crew please bring your swimsuit so you can BRAG you have swam in the chilly, cold, cold North Atlantic Ocean - its soooooooooo invigorating. As for boats - when you guys and gals get here next year I will have a boat tour arranged to go see the Humpback Whales - there is nothing more humbling than being next to an animal that is much bigger than the vessel you are riding in. The hell with the wetsuit - give me a pair of shorts and t-shirt, I love boats. Bubba - your more than welcome to come up this way too ya know - you'd fit right in with some of da boys round here. |

Wetsuits??!! I'll ride the "miles and miles of twisty county roads running through the pine and oak forests" but I ain't wearing no wetsuit! Seriously though, I'd be interested in riding over there. I'll keep it mind. Any of the weekends would be OK. Probably the June dates would be best for rafting sans wetsuit! |
