Hi, I would love someone to tell me whats up with my ecmspy, I have every thing plugged and I can fetch the ecm with ecmread but only with the engine running. Now, with the 1.12.27 version I just loaded yesterday, When I try to fetch a map, it always send me the message: Failed to get ecm firmware. ??? I tried with the bike off, only key to on position, key on and killswitch on, engine running, Always the same message! If y try to fetch the eeprom, just nothing happens beside the message in the lower of the screen that says wait until the eeprom fetch or somethong like this. How much time is it supposed to take? If someone know something please tell because I have no ideas. Thanks a lot Gab |

NOT running but key in run position and kill/run switch in the ON position is what you want .. ( pull th headlight fuse to save some batt ) it will not pull the eprom with the bike running. |

thanks helping! I tried the way you said but how long is it supposed to take to fetch the eeprom?? With ecmread it took 5-6 sec. but with ecmspy it seems way to long to be good? I will try to wait longer but it don't feel to me that it is going to work! Thank |

It should take a couple of seconds. Make sure ECMspy is looking at the correct com port. |

I just configured the com port to port 1 and put com port 1 in ecmspy. I tried to fetch the eeprom and it says: failed to get firmware version... exiting now. But in the lower part of the screen it says com port open. After I tried to fetch the map... and it worked?!?!? After I changed my maps for little bit more fuel at idle and now I am not able to burn the maps or the eeprom (it keep saying in the lower screen: transmission timed-out. I tried to fetch the maps again but nothing would happen beside the same error message. How come does it work one time and does not work the other times? I am really confused. Thanks for the help Gab |

I have uninstalled the driver and reinstalled the latest ftdi driver on the website. Ecmspy worked for maybe 15-20min and after does not want to log again saying that the program don't find the firmware version (same message as if I don't put the ignition switch on or killswitch). Today, I got it work for half a EEPROM fetch, it began to pull the information and maybe 5-6 sec later it said transmission timed out. When I ask for autodetect the com port, it don't find one and one time it said: get com port. i don't know what to think, maybe electrical problem, connection, bad laptop??? maybe someone already had this problem. Thanks for the help! |

Sounds like it could be a bad cable and that could be either on the bike or the adapter to USB. You should short two of the pins together on your USB cable and open up a terminal program and see if you get the echo. I don't remember the two pins off hand but it is the send and receive data lines that you need to short. That will tell you if your cable work properly. |

It would be pins 1 & 3 on the connector at the end of your USB cable. You can use hyperterminal or download comtest.exe. (Message edited by terrys1980 on June 12, 2011) |
