Love the new fairing very sexy, would love to be able to afford one now So glad Erik Buell Racing is up and running, and off to a great start actually would miss the belt drive, but I can see where it needed to be chain 175 hp. All the talk of 185~190hp at the rear wheel had my expectations too high! Very competitive with the KTM and 1198 though Don't like the exhaust, looks like an afterthought Don't like the carbon intake for the brake, again looks like an fix. But since it's necessary, okay (Message edited by sprintst on June 10, 2011) |

175hp is in street trim. Throw on the race exhaust, thinner base gaskets and retime the stock cams and you have the race spec engine. These Rotax engines are very loud for some reason - I'm sure the secondary muffler is an afterthought/easy fix - luckily it looks like quick removal was in the design parameters. |

You can thank the EPA for that HP hit, but the good news is it takes only an afternoon and a few bolt ons like the race exhaust and race ECM to bring it to AMA superbike 185rwhp ![: )](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/clipart/happy.gif) |

From what I gathered, the headers are race spec, so it's just a muffler change for the exhaust. Changing gaskets and whatnot will take a bit more time though. |

One of the reasons for the extra muffler/tailpipe was to make it legal for sale in Japan. The exhaust must exit high, or it can't be sold there. But yeah, it comes right off. It also APPEARS (I've not seen it in person) that it can be removed whilst leaving the rest of the exhaust system in place. |

Also, unless I was racing this bike (with race gas) I would not install the thinner base gaskets. The stock compression likely works better with pump gas. Speculation on my part. |

I remember reading something in a magazine that said the mufflers on the side are due to the normal underslung muffler being replaced with two large catalysts to get the 1190RS through emmisions testing. |

The thick gasket should stay for street motors: the compression is 13.6:1 already. It's over 15.0:1 with the thin gasket, which demands race gas. The race muffler and ECU alone are good for a really significant power boost at the top end; doing nothing other than removing the sub-muffler also gives a measurable top end increase, and leaves the bike quiet enough to be ridden anywhere. And believe me, it's not as if the bike needs more horsepower . . . |

Not Purple - I just watched the Craftsman Experience for the first time (I know, late to the game...), and it was mentioned that what was the muffler on the 1125 now houses 2 cats on the 1190, and the secondary muffler is only a resonator to get noise levels down. |

"and leaves the bike quiet enough to be ridden anywhere" Think I remember reading that it's 2 dB quieter than it needs to be to pass emissions. That's significant since -3 dB is half as loud. Taking it off will probably not attract the police or piss off the neighbors. |

> That's significant since -3 dB is half as loud Absolutely a fact. But, keep in mind, it's roughly 10db a human will perceive as halving/doubling the sound. I do a lot of work with audio; In human perception terms, 3db isn't much. |

I've seen that same set up on a Guzzi race bike, circa 2003. The racer indicated he had to do some things to REDUCE the effectiveness of the system as it was way too powerful. |

I believe it was Steve Anderson, or anon (or both) that said that with the gasket, exhaust, tune, and race gas the 1190 can make UPWARDS of 195rwhp+, and one a bike that once an exhaust swap is in will weigh about in the 360lbs. WET (without fuell)!! and even in "stock" form weighs 389 lbs. wet w/o fuel and puts out 175rwhp and 96ft. lbs. of torque. puts the power to weight ratio at: 2.22 lbs per hp and with the can, chip, and gasket on there we are looking at... 1.8 lbs. per hp! i estimate that with a can and tune on pump gas it will be around 185rwhp..factor in a min. of 15 lbs. and we are at: 2.02lbs. per hp now the reigning top dog in the superbike world is the S1000RR, which makes 180rwhp, and 78 ft. lbs. of torque, now the only wet weight i could find was 458lbs fuelled, now considering the dry weight is 403, im guessing without fuell it would be around 425-430lbs (ill be on the forgiving side) puts it at about: 2.36 lbs. per hp so you say not that impressed....well i say we will soon be witnessing the crowning of the USA as the street superbike KINGS oh if i only had 40k... here's to hoping that the RX is close in weight and performance!
