Roger asked ... Could someone tell me from a Buell enthusiasts point of view, what is good or bad about my 2002 X1 Lightning. I know nothing about Buells. Without takin' space on the classifieds section... I consider the '02 X1 the best of the X1 Lightnings. It was the last year of the X1 and all previous bugs found in the '99 and '00 X1s (especially fuel injection) were worked out. You'll see some negativity from some riders that have isolated bad experiences with a specific bike. In my opinion, this goes back to the dealership. If an X1 Lightning is the model for you, the '01 and '02 are the best years. Some like the previous version...the original S1 Lightning better. More raw, brash and looks more lean. DAve

I have a 2000 X1 and with a few upgrades and modifications as outlined in my profile. It is perhaps the best bike I have ever owned. It is comfortable, handles great and the power band is right where I want it. In essence, it is a great design for a multitude of motorcycling activities ranging from BattleTrax to long distance touring. |

I own a 2002 White Lightning, and i totally Agree with Dave.... I was a little leary about buying an X1, due to the problems i heard about the 99's, but i talked to a couple people, read a few articles, and finnally talked to owners. When i decided on the White Lighting (best overall i think) I couldn't be any happier, well maybe with the Race ECM, and Force INtake hehehe. Dave any help there? if anyone wanted to purchase an X-1 i would highly recommend one from 2001-2002.. I have over 15,000 miles on mine in just under 1.5 years... yeah i like it.. plus it is awesome at stop lights.. hehehe you guys know what i mean. Adam |

The only problem that I have had with my '02 X1 was the leaking rocker box cover gaskets at ~4000 miles. Approaching 7000 miles now and runs great/no problems. Tried to achieve the more lean/brash look by removing chin fairing and all plastic pieces and adding a few CF items. Ergonomically speaking it seems to fit me better than the XB's (R or S). image{X1} Frank Carbon fiber won't get you home! |

Thanks guys for the input. As you can tell I am pretty green when it comes to Buells. You may have read I obtained it through a trade for snowmobiles. I think it looks sharp and is fun to ride but my wife says that is not what she had in mind when I traded for it. (She wants a pontoon boat) So I must sell it to make her happy. I have to admit though I`m not pushing it. |

I have 28000 Mi. on my 2001 X1 only problem has been self inflicted. I ajustied the clutch cable to tight and broke it.( but it eats tires I am on my 8th rear and 4th front) I think it runs as good now as when I rolled it out of dealers shop. |

$3,000-$7,000 or more. Depending on local market and local weather and your salesmanship and how enamored the potential buyer is. What your local regional Buell dealership network is like will also play a very major factor in what you can get for a used Buell, the worse the local dealers are the lower the price you can expect to get. Enamored can be defined as either Buell Aware, or Buell Enthusiast, or Hammered, or some other term of your choosing. Now I should say that one does not have to be hammered to have a good Buell experience, but some have become hammered after their Buell experience. My Buell experiences have been (apart from one specific incidence) good and I have not felt the need to become hammered (though I have considered other uses of a hammer re the one incidence). As always, your mileage and your market may vary. |

I did take it to our local dealer and they said I should not have a problem selling it. They gave me a buy bid of $4,500 but that seemed low, however they also said they had more inventory than they wanted going into winter. I do realize that they want to sell for profit but I am not that desperate. I was hoping to get $6,500.....I can say that our local dealer is well known in this area and has recently expanded but that would only mean something to the buyer if they lived around here. A buyer would not need to pay me sales tax either so hopefully that will help me too. |

If they offered you an outright $4500 to buy it from you then that is great, I was only offered $3500 for my M2, $3000 for the S2, and only if taken in on trade for floor stock or ordered in stock. How close are you to Waterloo? |

Dyna, you know that you want an XB12r/s. Resistance is futile. Accept it and plan accordingly. Go see Dave S. He'll set you up with a test ride. Once you ride it, you'll be hooked. When a specific motorcycle marque attracts this many really good people, there must be something really good about it. |

Now that is one Controversial Church. Wonder what their position on "Flock Fleecer's" like Baker and Swaggert is. |

Roger, I have a 2001 x1, its had some troubles: rocker box gaskets (front once, rear twice) Exhaust temp sensor primary side crank seal rear belt speedo sensor various oil leaks In spite of all that its a sh*tload of fun. The only thing I caution about is the stock seat, I call mine "nut crusher" |

Dave, it got the name somewhere around Tennessee. You think I'd have something new by now. Still looking to do my 1000 mile day on it, and it'll still have the stock seat! One of these days I'll remember the pain long enough to get a new one.

Nut Crusher...Too damn funny! Picked up the Pegasus two up saddle and it is better, but locks you into a more forward position. Like the stock saddle for solo riding and am having a gel pad installed in it this winter to hopefully relieve the two (bone to I swear metal) pressure points.

Thanks. but I want the pad under the seat so I can scoot around on it in the turns without hanging up. That is the beauty of the stock seat! |

I have a 2001 X1. The X1 rocks and is the best motorcycle in the world. Anyone who says different is a communist and hates America. |

Jon, as an X1 owner and former infantryman during the 80s (kill a commie for mommy was the slogan back then)..... I concur (okay, okay just having a laugh). Do we have any Russian Buellers on the board? I'll hoist a vodka or 2 as penance. Dave, I'm afraid I'd loose the airhawk, pretty pricey to watch it float down the tarmac. Nevco1, are you having Sargent do the work? |

Believe it or not, there is a really great saddle maker right here in Milwaukee. Have seen and sat on his work and really like it. Plus, if you don't like it, he will continue to work with you until you are satisfied. Is much easier to work with a local than a long distance saddle maker. |

Even with my Corbin (which I really like) I use the Airhawk on top when I ride over 200 miles. Just seems to keep my rear and hips from getting cramped/ sore. My 2000 X-1 RS Stripe'r has been a great bike for me. At 34,000 miles she runs great! and is willing and able to go anywhere, anytime. If anyone is interested she is for sale with a host of goodies including an X-3 conversion, X-1 original and two sets of aftermarket pipes. My only reason for selling is Passion has stole my heart and sole away!. Time2WOrk. Neil S. |

I am selling a Buell Accessory seat for an X1 99-up. It has been used very little, and is black with orange piping. It is currently on eBay right now. I highly recommend it over stock seat (Ball Buster). I found a great deal on a custom Corbin seat, so I don't need this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=35566&item=2442416112 I absolutely love my 2000 X1. Only problem I have had is the rocker gasket leaking. Harley fixed it, now it runs great. I like the comment earlier about making you "Grin like an idiot"! That's me!

Tried the Corbin on a friends M2. Know it is a different bike but felt like it was way too big for my tiny hiney. The Pegasus two up is a really great saddle. Comfortable and well constructed. Made by Saddleman/Travelcade. Like it when the Sig O rides along but prefer the stock seat for solo riding. The stock saddle seems lower. a tad longer and smoother than the Pegasus. I really like it for both sport (hanging off) and long distance riding. Much better than the higher, more forward feeling I get with the Pegasus, at least ergonomically for me. Only problem I have with the stock seat is two what feels like metal to bone (upper femur and pubic bone) pressure points and the gel insert should take care of that. If not, you can call me Numb Nutz. LOL |
