I have about 1000 miles on 09CR and the last two times out the voltage regulator got so hot that it is making the seat hot, and the air coming out the left vent in rear cowl by the regulator is scorching my leg. After getting off bike I opened the seat and the subframe rails were also hot enough that you could not hold onto it for any length of time. Last time out this morning for 60 mile ride, RPM 45-5000 intake temp 92, coolant temp 190, and batt 14. My question is how hot should the regulator get? | ||

Just do what I did. http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.d ll?Detail&name=259-1415-ND Just set it on top of the regulator, blowing down..! I moved the harnesses and hoses out of the way enough for the air to get at the front of the reg., as much as possible. Not because the heat was bothering me...but because the heat hurts the regulator. Mike | ||

I did the same thing, sort of. Mines mounted blowing on the back of the regulator and is activated by a toggle switch so when I am moving slow it can blow some air. does this do anything? probably not. LOL but sorta makes feel like I am trying... ya know, to keep the volts up, and the magic smoke in the R/R where it belongs! | ||

Spec sheet says 47 dB. My "Sound Meter" app says 65-66 dB in my room now. "Sounds" like a quiet fan...  Z | ||

Mountain - You talken about mine...? If not...don't read this note..! Not loud and very efficient for what it is and its cost...! Can feel the airflow out the bottom of the subframe....it's all it needs to be...! And can't hear it till the engine's off, then one needs to really listen for it. Why the stupid comment on something you apparently know nothing about. Mike | ||

Hey Mike I definitely know my 12 volt fans. I've been building high end custom computers since 1999. Why are you jumping to conclusions about my comments? Do I usually make stupid comments? Nope. You chose a loud and low CFM fan when there are higher CFM fans with a lower DBA rating. I wondered why. (Message edited by mountainstorm on June 07, 2011) | ||

Mountainstorm, how about a Vantec Tornado? I had 3 of those in my computer once, due to the suction it was impossible to remove the case while the computer was on  | ||

NP! from the PC world - if noise isn't an issue the high RPM Tornado's kick some butt CFM wise. It's also pretty amazing how much air a larger fan can move while still keeping db down. hence the 120 and 140mm increases in CFM but still less db than your 80mm. I've had PC's with 12+ fans, rheostat'd to control RPM (and noise), before i went water cooling (chilled actually)... I'm a geek. AND since i don't cook my seat i look forward to NOT messing with it! but since you seem to have an issue - besides replacing or adding a heatsink to it - cooling must be needed. I might also add some reflective heat dampener to see if it helps, but that doesn't address the VR itself overheating - you just wouldn't feel it as much. Best of luck! |
