So I've done a few searches here on the site and on google and it looks like most of the tailbags and saddle bags make it impossible for me to have a Passenger. My GF and I have gone on a lot of road trips lately and well. Only so much stuff you can fit in a backpack that she can carry on her back comfortably and I managed to fix my tank bag but then she has no way to brace herself while we ride. She normal places her hands on the airbox cover. So I'm down to two options. Try and find or develop a removable Saddle Bag and Tail bag option that I can put together and take apart. or I'm going to trade in the 1125R for a Triumph Sprint GT which I don't want to do and she doesn't want me to do either. So hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction. Our two next trips are 4th of July and Indy in August. | ||

... get her the MSF course & a Blast?  That was my solution. We were able to run passenger + Cortech soft saddle bags, but you have to be careful - they'll rub the rear tire two-up unless you have some spacers to hold them out. I use the tailbag daily, and it's totally separate from the saddlebags. | ||

Dannybuell - I'm trying not to get out of the 1125R and I've made my mind up on the Triumph Sprint GT if I have to. I want to see if there is something I can do to get around that. Syonyk - She doesn't want to ride she likes being the passenger tried that one already...lol I was also thinking of going hard bags of some sort. I have an idea that would work to make it supportive and that would work but I don't have the equipment to make my own supports if I but the equipment. If you guys are good doing two-up on the 1125 I'd say for the same money you'd have to ante up additional for the Triumph you could find a good used 650 V-Strom and feel great on that, and keep the 1125. I'm 215lbs dressed to ride and my gf is @150 and there's enough power no problem, cushy ride and great seats, esp. for the passenger. Comes with a luggage rack even. Should find a good one for @$4K. Zero issues with these too. I've owned dozens of bikes and this is my favorite all-rounder. Just my 2cents. Duphuckincati - We do really well on the 1125R, just on longer trips trying to carry clothes for when we stay the night and not put too much stress on her back with a back pack and no place for her to rest her hands when I have the tank back. We also really enjoy hitting the twisties pretty agressivley. We are thinking about doing the two up track days they have at Autobahn near Joliet, IL. Which is why we don't want to get rid of the Buell. | ||

You could put a platform for a sissy bar/tail bag behind the rear seat. The rear seat bracket might be a good place to start it looks pretty stout. | ||

i don't see your name in this post so look here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/633913.html?1306462931 you live in a state where there are tool makers/fabricators - or contact people in the above post -maybe they can help fabricate a mount from the BMW K1300S: these bags look small enough to fit and maybe make room for a passenger....they're small and most "Break My Wallet" (bmw) types like bigger bags - you may want to search some K forums and see if they're any used bags available...again you would have to find someone to make mounts... http://www.ascycles.com/detail.aspx?ID=39119 ...many of my friends who carry a pass. swear by the crossed tuning forks - chk out the FJ before you buy into the Union Jack...good luck | ||

Ventura gear is tops... Jude & I use it all the time, two up using the "Pack Rack" with canoo sacks and the tent.. Or the 52L Aerospada bag.. No need to change the bike at all... | ||

Jules you have the wingrack system correct? How is that looks like a better value for almost the same money. Also have you had a passenger with the saddle bags on? | ||

Buellitup - now I did, how do you find these threads I do a search and none of those showed up. Also to that thread I called Al at american sports bike today because Amy from Ventura recommended I talked to him and he said those bags wouldn't work with the passenger that she'd be uncomfortable. | ||

I cheated, I had seen it. As for who is comfortable with them, well, you could argue that the makers of the 1125 aren't comfortable with people adding custom brackets so that you can fit large bags on them. Or changing out the suspension, or the brakes, or the bars, or whatever else that messes with the balance of the system however slight. | ||

Jules you have the wingrack system correct? Yes and no... I have the ventura system fitted and normally use that with the packrack and either the bag (if we're not camping) or a couple of sealine bags and a tent (when camping). I had a spare wingrack in the garage so I fitted that to see if it woud work... and it does, even with a pillion. I used the L-Brackets from the Ventura kit as the basis and attached the wingrack to that, far enough back so there was still legroom for the pillion. It looks horrible, but does the job. I have taken it back off at the moment as it was only an experiment (but a succesful one) and i can carry enough stuff with the Ventura kit for my partner and I camping for 2 weeks. Either way (Ventura or wingrack) I'd have needed the L-Brackets as they're the "neatest" way to attach luggage tot he bike that i have found (i.e. they don't look too unsightly) With the wingrack on the bags stick out beyond the licence plate (I have a tail tidy) they don't look very attractive, but I fitted a pair of 36L hard cases and it all worked (with a pillion)... | ||

The Ventura rack and bag plus the Chase Harper saddlebags work very well for our two-up touring trips. Both are American Sport Bike items. | ||

In addition to Ventura, toss a good-sized tank bag on and luggage capacity should no longer be an issue. I know a lot of you guys love riding two-up for long rides on your 1125s - my GF is barely 100lbs, but I bought an S3T and comfort level for both is leagues ahead. Just something to think about. Not saying the 1125 can't do 2-up or touring duty (lord knows I've done it on mine), but there are better tools for that job if it's a major requirement. | ||

I've got a second bike for serious touring duties (a ZZR1100 with full Givi luggage) and you're quite correct, a "proper" tourer is a different beast... But for weekend rallies, or the odd trip over to Europe I'd sill rather take the Buell and put up with a bit of discomfort  | ||

Ya my plan is to keep the Buell pay it off then get a "real" tourer. We're going to try this since out longest trip so far has been 3-4 hours and we haven't been sore yet. Mostly a luggage issue. We both don't want to get rid of the Buell. She likes the speed and twisties more than I do...lol When we go from Chicago to the UP (Michigan)that will be the real test (Message edited by CraigG on June 09, 2011) |
