Nah, it's not that simple.. He had to give up all the rights to the "BUELL" brand so although he owns Erik Buell Racing as a brand he's still stuck with limits to what he can do for the HD owned "brand" and its associated bikes. There aren't that many inherant problems with the motor as such. The stator is a cheap/easy fix (as long as you don't go back to HD for the parts) as is the clutch slave... I have no issue with spending a couple of hundred bucks to get the stator rewound and if my clutch leaks again I'll just replace the seals and consider it a "wear" item... like fork seals.. It doesn't bother me as much as it seems to bother some. |

Stator Clue from Steve_a in his post on this page: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/634649.html?1306461044 "The RS cools the stator with an oil jet, an orifice, if I have it right, that's newly machined into the alternator rotor, an operation that can be done, as I understand it, on old parts. When word or parts get out, I think it will be a popular modification." The compu-fire rotor has slots. http://www.compufire.com/harley-main.html |

I asked Erik if I bought one could I actually expect it to be a reliable street bike or was it more of a collectors item and he said this motor is much HAPPIER at 1190 cc's for some reason. Much smoother running at all RPM's.I feel very confident about getting parts and support from Erik Buell Racing---- Much more so than H.D. |

Hmmm.......How many clutch cables and for seals did you change in the first year of ownership? The clutch cable on my X1 is still original, although I changed my (non leaking) fork seals as a precaution. |

^^ Yep I understand what you're saying.. I have had the seals replaced once so far in 18 months of ownership, obviously I'd rather they lasted forever, but if they don't I genuinely don't mind replacing them annually if that proves neccessary (hopefully it won't) but I'll just buy a spare set, stick them in with the other spares I am holding and just forget about it. At least when they go it's progressive (most of the time) rather than catastrophic so unlike a cable breaking I can still ride it until it's convenient for me to do it.. My 996 had similar issues with the clutch slave, mainly as a tophat bearing had seized and the dealer didn't recognise the symptoms...another steep learning curve.. The seal kit seems to have resolved the issue for me (at least for now) so I just check it every time I remember (not often LOL). |

Most posts on the board are when people are having problems. Not as many posts saying their bikes are trouble free. The first 1125 I got had the clutch seals replaced the first month but I've got 17,500 miles since then with no issues. NONE. The second is a track bike with 3000 miles at WOT-Zero problems. Third bike had a bad fuel pump at 400 miles but I believe that was from sitting on the showroom floor for 3 years. Fourth bike was from the fire sale --Low mileage but ZERO issues. IMO these bikes aren,t nearly as bad as the posts make it out to be. If I had to do it over I would buy an 1125 again. No regrets and I,m looking forward to my next Erik Buell Racing. I,f there are any problems I,m sure they will be addressed. |
