Let me chime in... I have tried the D&D and the "Drummer"; 1. the "drummer" is less $$$ 2. the "drummer" bolts up easy 3. the "drummer" IS smoother 4. the "drummer" is not as loud The dyno chart above does not show the low RPM dip suffered by the D&D. Try the pipes, both of them, back to back and get a more accurate dyno then post. Maybe you like the noise of a D&D with its "dippy" powerband. Me I'm all about the smooth power of the "drummer". I know it is unfortunate that you spent a lot of $$$ on a pipe that is not as spectacular as the "drummer" but if your happy with it that's great. It is just my opinion that the D&D was just loud, but hey I did enjoy it, then I saw the light... ps-I am not a spokesman for Drummer Inc. but will accept any "gifts", preferably cash.

How would you describe the sound of D&D pipes? And does anyone have reviews on the new Jardine slip on for XB's? |

I have heard the D&D on both the XB9 as well as on Gearloose's XB12 & it sounds damn good. In my opinion its the best sounding muffler for the bikes. Brians works great & so does the D&D. If you want a pipe that works well & sounds great but costs $550, get the D&D. If you want a pipe that works well also but isnt as loud but is $200 cheaper, get the Drummer. |

this is the last thing I'll say about this stuff. that is a very convient graph that does not show the big dip in the d&d if you go back and look at the dyno or put up another chart that starts at 2500 rpm you will see the big dip... hey buellish....lighten the hell up..did you get beat up alot on the playground when you were a kid. man its just a discussion. |

my fault ...the dip is from 2k to 3k and then it comes on. plus with the air box on the numbers are lower. |

keith I guess I am not done. This chart I just realized is wrong. at least with what is in front of me with my charts and what I sent you. yours show the stock torque reaching 6o ft/lbs and the drummers torque and hp dipping below stock. Well on the charts I've posted and the ones I sent you. this never happens. so to me this has become a exercise in futility. we are using to many charts from too many different dynos with too many different bikes. I know you have already stated this but now its become misrepresentation of all the products we are discussing here. like I said if we had one bike one dyno one day we could do this correctly. otherwise we have just confused everyone and misrepresented the d&d, the force ,the drummer and the stock pipe.

Uuumm, Brian, as I said, I used my bike's stock run since I used my bike's modified run as well. That gives us an apples to apples comparison on my bike. My stock bike's torque does reach 60 lb-ft at 5500 rpm. This is not a misrepresentation. It's just not as controlled as we would like for it to be. Apparently I did not do a very good job of stating my intentions here. When I purchased my aftermarket exhaust, there really weren’t many options to choose from: the Buell Race Muffler, Latus, Force, and D&D. After studying the dyno charts for each, the D&D fit my personal needs for street riding better than the others. Had I planned to race the bike, the choice might have been different. I do not plan to purchase another exhaust system for this bike any time soon. However, my next door neighbor recently purchased a ’03 XB9R and is asking what the best slip is on for the money. I’m tending to lean towards the Drummer. I don’t think anything beats it for the price. The D&D is 60% more expensive. If I make that recommendation, though, I want it to be based on fact. This is the reason I put together the composite HP and torque charts with the best information that I had available at the time. Brian, since you work at Tilley’s, I assume you have access to a dyno? If so, why not have someone in your area volunteer their stock XB9 and get a baseline run. Then let’s do a comparison with at least the Drummer and the D&D as I see them as being performance competitors if not price wise. You can decide whether you want to do any ECM and air box changes. Regarding why I started my charts at 3000 RPM? I could have started them just above idle, but I don’t ever run the motor that low except pulling away from a dead stop. I personally don’t care what happens below even 3500. I’m interested in what the system (air box, ECM, exhaust, engine) does in the range where I spend the most time. I’m truly interested in a controlled test on one bike. Is anyone else? Keith

Keith Lets end this sorta. I wasn't saying that you were misrepresenting anything. I was saying (not to clearly) just what you have. That this wasn't a controlled experiment therefore it was misrepresenting all the pipes. as far as doing a baseline, and then a drummer, and then a d&d. If I knew anybody around here witha d&d I would do it. That would be great. But I have yet to see one other than the one ted had, but he sold it to someone not near here. I wasn't accusing you of anything or misrepresenting anything. I've got no issues with you on anything. I know what were all trying to get accomplished here. It just seems we aren't doing a good job of it. I f anybody is anywhere near this part of NC and you have a d&d lets get together and do this lil test. I'd like to do it. |

Enough's enough. If you don't run the test on the same bike, same dyno, same atmospherics, same tester, you've accomplished, at best, not a damn thing when it comes to a definitive report on the values of everything involved. Now, if this is going to happen let's decide how to make it so. If I stay here, still a big question mark, I'm buying the BLACK XB12R from Brian (not a matter of finances, credit, etc, etc, etc, just don't know where I'll be in the coming months) I'll leave the bike with Brian and you can all get together and just flog the piss out of it -- watch out warranty here we come! See what happens when we all try to join together for one greater purpose? You are all doing great and I really do appreciate all of the time that everyone involved is putting into this. I know that this is not being done just for my own curiosity, but for everyone's. I would just like to be the one to tell everyone thank you. Thank you. |

Brian, Please be sure to document your dyno testing such that the results will be above reproach... multiple runs to demonstrate consistency and all that. Seems like each config should be run-in to alow the ECM to optimally adjust the AFV before subjecting it to any testing, no? It would be cool to see results for both the stock airbox cover and for an aeriated version too. |
