I keep hearing about how our ECM's "learn" as we ride. Learn what? Are they adjusting timing a few degrees? Adjusting AFR's? Remembering how I like to take that sweeping exit at 190kph? |

All they do is make changes to the Adaptive Fuel Value (AFV). This changes to help compensate for minor changes in the riding environment including altitude and air temperature. Contrary to popular belief, the bike will not remap itself when you change your exhaust. A proper tune is required. |

Yea wasn't thinking it would remap just curious as to what its doing and to what degree. My PCV will be here next week so soon I should have some dyno info for you all. |

In a nutshell it's looking at rich/lean feedback from a small portion of the closed loop area of the fuel map and makes a global correction to the whole map to get back to equilibrium. Works pretty good for adjusting to minor difference between bike to bike (manufacturing tolerances), and environmental difference for the same bike(temp, altitude, etc). Can be a rat hole though if you change exhaust. Don't have the numbers in front of me, but I think it will make a 30-40% correction in the lean or rich direction before it will set a CEL. Should be able to see those values in Diag mode on the cluster. |
