Just checked my speedo readings against a GPS. Basically seems the speedo reads about 5 or 6 mph higher than the GPS at around 80mph (as per the GPS). So 80 GPS = 85 speedo. This is with the race ECM and I seem to think it was closer with the stock ECM. Anyone else concur with this reading? Anyone with closer numbers? (Message edited by duphuckincati on June 02, 2011) |

61-62mph indicated vs 60mph on GPS on both my R and CR with Race ECMs. I don't do 80 often enough to check accuracy there. It sounds like you have the R ECM instead of CR. |

Checked the r/CR bit with Erik Buell Racing, i.d. #'s did not indicate that was the issue but I'll be sending the unit back for re-flash for Keda pipe so wanted to see what others had for the speedo stuff. Thanks. Anyone else? |

Not a 5mph difference from wear alone. Wrong size tires yes, but not just wear. |

mines about 1-2 off, stock ecm....however at about 160mph its doing 155 actual....so it increases a little bit with speed Jake |

Re: tires...nope, new set of Dunlops, no change from last tire (Michelin). And yes, the amount of error does increase with speed. Seems to maintain the same percentage of error. (Message edited by duphuckincati on June 02, 2011) |

Most vehicle speedos are calibrated a bit high on purpose...for one it makes it look like it is faster...but the real reason is to help the manufacturer shed responsibility in the event someone gets a speeding ticket. (Message edited by fast1075 on June 03, 2011) |

I think the average for speedo inaccuracies is an over-read of about 5%. I can't recall my figures but I know when I checked once I was impressed by how close to the GPS speed my IC was reading (around 3 or 4 MPH high at "80") GPS speed isn't neccessarily that accurate anyway so it's a bit accademic.. |

> GPS speed isn't neccessarily that accurate anyway It's an average, yea, and it's ability to track peak speed is limited to the sampling rate of the GPS chip, to some degree the accuracy of the GPS signal received, and Nyquist and all that. For what it's worth, I find that if I ride in a stead-state speed, the GPS and Speedo are pretty dang close on the 1125r. That said, I find the average-between-points data pretty useful on the telemetry/laptimer, and it sure beats looking down mid-corner to find out how you did that pass (Message edited by jdugger on June 03, 2011) |

Being that it works by averaging your distance traveled over a few seconds, there is room for error, but if you are slabbing it and maintaining the same speed, it is dead accurate. |

I've encountered the mobile FYI-radar at 30 45 and 60 mph. Speedo on Loretta is always within 1 mph. I'm sure it'll be off at the top-end, but at "normal" speeds it's pretty close. My 2¢ Z |

Seems then that mine is off by a bit more than others. I can live with it but I'll see if when they re-flash for the pipe if there's a way to calibrate the speedo part. Make sense? I'm still more at home with Amal and Lucas. So I don't know. |
