Finally got my winter project completed. With inspiration coming from GBalias' exhaust

http://www.buellxb.com/Buells-for-Sale/Buell-Parts -for-Sale/Buell-performance-parts/The-GB-Buell-XB- exhaust-system...

I've made my own. If you have seen any youtube vids of this muffler, let me tell you the sound in the videos does absolutely no justice. The bike sounds beastly now. I'd equate it to the sound volume of some slash cut straight pipes on a sporty, but with a VERY bassy-throaty tone that never gets raspy. It stays deep all the way to the limiter. Top end is definitely better. Maybe a very small bit of loss on the bottom end torque-wise. (this is all "seat of the pants" assumptions)

I had gutted my stocker and added a flowmaster type of baffle setup inside prior to this. But that can took the stock stumble at 3k and accentuated it to a level I could not tune out. I'm no dynamo with ECMspy by any means, but I've taken all the help from GB and Xopti that they could give and was never able to get rid of the problem.

This new setup is currently running on the same map I ended up with on the last pipe cuz I haven't had time to play with it tuning-wise yet. But even on that same map, the stumble is gone, and the idle is rock steady. Some areas that could definitely be improved upon, but all in all I'm super happy with it. Given the fab time and the welding time, I'd say GB's price point is pretty good; maybe a little high. I am a machinist, and have a very good buddy welder though. And if you have the capabilities, this setup is a VERY cheap alternative to the assortment of mufflers out there. It looks great polished and can rival any of them for quality if you know a good welder. With shipping costs, I'm into it for under 2 bills. No disrespect to George. But it is a niche market with not much to choose from and I just want people to know that this is a GREAT muffler with good performance that can be built for much less than a lot of whats out there if you have the ability.

Have a good one yall!!

I'll get some pics up when I can. It looks essentially the same as GB's does. With a couple differences: Instead of a pipe clamp at the header collector AND at the inlet of the muffler, I have just one pipe clamp (the original one) at the header collector and a weld at the inlet of the muffler. The tubing size needed to go over the header collector end is smaller than the muffler inlet diameter, so I lathed up a little doughnut to span the gap between the two. And my bracket at the front looks different.

The model used is 642-11148. $83.99 from Jegs plus shipping. And I got some 304 stainless tubing (one U-bend, and one 45 degree bend) with a 2" I.D. for the tips and the front tube, at a site called jayracing.com for just under $75 plus shipping.

Some trial and error mocking it up, and viola, a nice new exhaust.

The current state of things:

The bike as I said is a new beast, and I've therefore been riding the crap out of it. But this has caused my once slow weeper of a rocker box leak to blossom into a full blown goosher. Got a fairly long ride coming up and I'm not gonna have the fan crap out on me, so here she sits.

Anyway, here's some pics of the can....

Well, it's all back together. Runs like a champ. Added a front O2 bung and sensor. Always said if I ever had a reason to rotate, that that addition would happen. Highly recommended. If you know your way around ECMSpy or TunerPro, it' worth your while. I'm sure if you haven't the capability to make a bung, you can probably buy them. And the sensor was a whopping 20 bucks, and available everywhere. In addition, you'll need the header seals, some good wire, soldering gun and solder, and some shrink tubing. I extended the wires back to the battery tray so all I have is the two torx screws for the seat to mess with and I'm switching sensors. Easily done out on the road. Bike is smooth as butter now. Been tuning back and forth, one cylinder at a time. Running the best it ever has. So stoked......

Well, 400 mile round trip last weekend and everything is still on the bike. Guess I didn't forget any bolts. And I've got one more reason to love this pipe. 51 MPG!

Tootin my own horn I know, but I'm just loving this thing. A bit more fiddling with ECMSpy. 57 MPG last run.

Two on there. And I just pull the seat to switch wires between the two. ECM only takes input from one at a time(without modifications, I hear it can actually be altered to use input from both somehow).

I could pull the front O2 when I'm not tuning I guess. But in the location it's in, it isn't really obtrusive or ugly looking.

You could install a 3 position toggle switch so you do not have to remove the seat to swap wires.

Yeah, that'll happen sooner or later.
