Im pretty experienced with different fuel injection systems on automobiles. My x1 has been running pretty bad since I bought it last November. Hard to start, hard to keep running, surgeing,back fire on decell. Pinging/detonation on accel from a start, just miserable tio ride till it got completely hot and even then, it wasnt right. I recognized it as a lean run condition. I was thinking I needed to have it remapped, then I started to think a bit? This Bike is exceptional in condition, there is no reason why the original owner would have put up with this? I remember some posts back last month about partially plugged injectors due to fuel deposits ? Professional cleaning seemed to correct their problems. Maked sense to me, the ecu commanded a set injector pulse time, if the injector is plugged partially? Less fuel per pulse= run lean. I added some BG fuel system cleaner to the gas tank, professional strength, I got from work and after riding about 120 miles the difference is amazing. The engine now starts quicker, no more hesitation, backfires, farts or stumbles. Before anyone considers a remap, especially If they didnt change anything that would cause a lean run like, exhaust or intake mods? Consider a fuel system cleaner. I used the BG product, but I hear good things about the Seafoam product available at your local auto supply store. Hope this helps? | ||

That's good to know. Thanks for sharing. One way to prevent this condition is to ride the bike regularly on an open road. Looking at your original symptoms they all seem to point to fuel delivery. So I think you are good to go and can safely disregard the skepticism. That been said, please keep us posted just in case... | ||

Two season, good point. It took me about 30 days so far to put those 120 miles on it. To be honest, it actually is running better everytime I run it. Only use the bike for transpo back and forth to work. Bout 7 miles each way per nice day,when I dont have to take the Car for one reason or another. Would ride it more, but hate the seat. 10 miles is about all I can stand till its time for me to get off. Whats funny is that,My last bike, 06 Honda ST-1300, was my daily driver, never even owned a car for those 3 years.Put 15K miles a year on it? The funny part is that I actually like rideing this X1 more then I did the ST? I wouldnt have started this thread if I didnt believe in what I am experiencing. Think of it this way? Aircooled bikes run hotter then water cooled.What causes injector deposits? Fuel baking on the injector after shut down. One way to help the injector to keep its self clean is to make the injectors have a rotating pintle. Since the early Buell FI system based its delivery on throttle position instead of MAP or MAF sensors ? Im betting they cheaped out on non rotating pintels also. Thus the pluggage some have experienced. I might just be swinging in the wind here with that idea? But the commercial fuel cleaner is working for me. | ||

i have no problems with my x1 running at all. the only problem is me trying to play with the ecm | ||
