99 X1 I am pretty sure my bike is running rich since most of the time I grab a little more than normal throttle, a poof of dark smoke comes out the pipe, both at a stand still and under load. I have also noticed that the idle is rough when cold and is better after it warms up. Pulled the HTS today and am only measuring 9 ohms pushing up into the gray rubber material and the outside of the body. I have found info that at this resistance the motor is at 300 degrees F, which is not the case. I am pretty sure that this sensor is bad, however I am looking for concurrence on this and any ideas to double check this is bad before I go and order a new one. Thanks Added: Just ran the bike with ECMSpy hooked up and at cold start, the temp read 40degC(104F). After a few minutes it went down to 37C(interesting) and then went back up to 41 where it stayed. Now 104 might be normal for a bike in the desert in the middle of the day, but not in Hawaii. I am not sure if the change in temp was real or not. Thanks again. When in doubt replace the HTS, although that advice is getting to be expensive these days (just replaced mine - $90 for the rear head kit). Was acting similar to yours, super rich at odd times, all fixed now. |
