hey
does anyone here have some clear paper-in-the-fan noise around 4k rpm? (sounds also a little like sparks)
very clear at 4000 on second, less on other gears...
higher rpm makes faster beats...

it seems from the crankcase.
once my tech refilled some oil and it was gone for 2-3 days, not getting worse but always there, noising me!

Man, check your stator nut!

Look in the oil for any shavings of metal...

They come loose!

I can't promise that's what the problem is, but it sounds familiar. A horrible noise, not a grinding noise, but yea, like a metal stick in spokes noise, only at certain RPMs.

FOR SURE, don't ride it until it's diagnosed. In my case, the motor seized, welding the crank to the bearings and making it impossible to split the bottoms and repair the motor. It sprays metal all through the motor, anyway, so you have to flush the whole motor.

If it's under warranty, haul it to a dealer now. If not, drop the oil, take a close look in that filter, and if you see ANY copper or ferrous material, you have a problem.

If you don't wear ear plugs, start! If you can't hear it with ear plugs in, then it's not a problem, keep riding.

Well, OK, but in my case the crank seized. That means THE REAR WHEEL LOCKS UP, and you go flying fast forward.

In my case, it was at a buck-twenty in the carousel at MSRH. I slid off-track and wasn't hurt spare a borken collarbone that cost a few thousand to repair and a bike that required about the same.

Do whatever you want, but understand that if it is a motor problem, it can be quite a safety hazard.

i did a little research...
noise i have is clutch related, if i pull the lever, it goes away...
so could it be the balancer thing?

Uh, less likely, but I'd really need to hear it to give you a better answer.

After my crash, I've become a lot more aware of funny motor noises : ) I mean, we all have our phobias, and now this one is mine.

I think it's seriously worth checking out. If you are close to an oil service interval, go ahead and drop the oil and motor screen and take a look for anything unusual. The clutch on these bikes is a piece of cake to take a look at, too, so I think it's worth peeking in there while you have the oil out of the bike.

Pulling the stator cover to check the stator nut is a bit more work, but it's not an unreasonable effort.

I know when I was a street-only rider I found someone telling me stuff like this as almost greek. It seemed totally unreasonable to go to this level of effort for a bike I expected to "just work".

But, now that most of my miles are hard-earned on the race track, I've become really comfortable with having the bike more or less apart in some way or another all time. It's been a fantastic learning experience, and I'll say these 1125r bikes are quite nice to wrench on in general, and seem well thought out.

So, go for it, I say. You might save some of your own skin. Worst case is, you learn something about your bike.

yes, Im happy to discover my bike!
but thing is I just changed my oil,less than 1000km ;(

the sound is really like a paper in a fan, continuous, rhythmed, sounds like sparks in those old gas fired water heater.

i think its impossible to record, no such noise on idle :\

refilled 150ml oil
became less noisy, but i found even at neutral, it does make this noise!!!

i dont want it to be the nut!! nooooo

Honestly, I think you do. While it takes a few hours to service it the first time, it's a zero-cost kind of thing as long as you catch it before any harm is done.

If you just changed your oil, go buy a new pan for a couple of bucks, clean it real well, and then pour any oil you drop back in after you are done.

But, if you see a bunch of stuff in the screen, which you will have to remove to really evaluate the motor for debris and insert the crank locking tool anyway (unless you want to try servicing the nut with the bike in gear and the wheel strapped to the lift), you won't want that oil back in there, anyway.
