What an F'd up system, Im trying to buy an 09 Buell from a guy who got it new with Harley financing. He has to call Harley an they will send him a form in 10 days telling him where he can send the money to pay it off. Problem is he doesnt have any which is why he's selling it. He wants me to send the payoff to Harley and the rest to him and wait for the title to come back. Thats not going to happen, my moneys gone, no title & no bike. I dont like the sound of that, any ideas on this problem ? |

I had the same problem when I bought mine. I called my bank and they told me to get a notarized bill of sale with payoff details and this will hold up in court should there be any issues. It took about 10 days to get the title. good luck |

Do you know the guy personally? Is it a cl or eBay deal? If its an eBay type deal or you don't know the guy I'd say run away and find another bike to buy too many scams out there these days. |

H-D financing is terrible to deal with, DAMHIK. He wants you to pay it off, AND give him money? How much does he owe? Sounds to me like you could find a better deal out there. |

Its a local guy here in town. Ive been to his house to look at the bike but I dont know him. Hes in debt up to his ass, new house, new Pstroke diesel, plus the bike & moving out of state. I dont know what he owes, I got the info about how the deal works from the Harley shop. They offered to handle it if I financed with them but I dont need to, I have the cash (Message edited by mtkawboy on May 15, 2011) |

I would do the notarized bill of sale deal only if the bike was in my garage. Im not going to track someone down thats moved to another state, legal or not. Id do the payoff and hold his money until the title lien is cleared. Whether he will go for that is up to him, I really dont care. Too many scams for me to trust anyone and thats a shame but its reality in todays world. I bet they dont mention this to Harley buyers that finance thru them |

HI All, I have purchased a few bikes that had same scenerio. Harley Eaglemark bank has strict rules that delay getting the title. I took possesion of the bikes from the owner by getting a bill of sale stating payoff to Harley bank will occur on X date and title to be forwarded to me. It took about 2 weeks total. Any bikes financed with Eagle Mark Bank are slow transactions but they are valid. Request fedex next day on all paperwork to Harley and it lowers the transaction time to about a week. Your deal sounds legit if its financed by Bank of Harley (eaglemark) (Message edited by oregonuly on May 15, 2011) |

This is from a review of Eaglemark Banks customers......I bought a Harley Streetglide from a private owner early last summer, and after the paperwork and money were (quickly) exchanged, it took Eaglemark Bank 5 weeks to send the title. Even my credit union was amazed at the long delay. The delay sure ate up a lot of summer riding time, and the phone calls were met with excuses and false promises. If you buy a bike from a private source, be prepared to wait a very long time before you get the title to buy the license plate. This bank acts like a department of the government in that it apparently believes it can take all the time it wants without penalty. Except for being a government agency, that seems to be a correct statement. How Harley Davidson can hook up with an outfit with this kind of, uh, "service", is beyond me...... I think Ive heard enough to make my decision |

that is EXACTLY how I bought my Buell you make the check out to Harley, take possession of the bike, and wait for the title. Do a bill of sale, put the term in there You don't "give him money" You give him a bank check made out to Harley Finance. He can't cash it. (Message edited by sprintst on May 16, 2011) |

What about the money difference that I owe him on top of the payoff ? This a guy thats moving to Washington. Am I supposed to pay him & Harley and have no title. Id keep the bike & pay him the rest when I get the title. He still has to accept my offer before this will be a problem. Its till a piss poor system to me |

Do a bill of sale, Have it signed by both parties, and witnessed. Once finance for HD is paid, reciept.. YOU hold the bike (locked).. HE holds the KEYS.. until paperwork comes thru. Then hand over the balance for the keys. Then each person, holds something without feeling threatened. |

The deal is that the lien for the bike is held by HD financial, so whether the owner likes it or not, they own the bike. So the thing I did was to contact ESB (Eaglemark Savings Bank, AKA HD Credit), told them what was going on. They were more than helpful, took my check, sent the "owner a note telling him he was off the hook" and in about 5 weeks I got the title. In this instance the amount owed on the bike was less than what I had offered to pay for the bike, so I gave the balance to the "owner". ESB worked quickly with the owner to get this all sorted out, as soon as they had my check they directed the "owner" to give me the bike - this took about two days. That was it, easy and smooth. |

Bought my '06 Ulysses from a guy in the same situation. Owed Harley finance and didn't have the title. What we did: I paid him with a credit union check. He wrote out a bill of sale with VIN & Engine Numbers (hand written) and signed. On the bill of sale were all conditions agreed upon between he and I. I loaded the bike on the truck and never looked back. Took about 2 weeks and I got the clean title in the mail. Oh, didn't hurt that the guy was a cop... in a small town. |
