Hey all, just wondering where some of you take your bikes for things like tire replacements and the up and coming (for me) 12000 mile service. I used to go to Calaway motor-sports in Riverside Ca. to have my tires put on (I order my tires on line) but they have since gone out of business and the company that took them over is kept me at the shop for 3 hours today and them told me that they were afraid to do it after all. Anyway, Calaway used to charge me $45 to put on the tire and today I was forced to go to Harley who promptly charged me $110 for the same job. So, where do you all go for your service? | ||

For tires I take the tires off and go to Temecula Motorsports. it's $15.00 labor only. The tires have to be off the bike but it's quick and cheap and they have not scared my rims, yet  as far as the other stuff I was going to Quaid H-D in Temecula but I'm gonna look somewhere else cuz they don't seem to be happy working on Buell's. | ||

Father - Might be a bit of a drive, but I use Cycle Rider in Montclair, between the 10 and 60 freeways. Same as above the wheels need to be off the bike. I don't have a clue what they charge if you bring your own tires, but they mount and balance free if you buy the tires from them. Their tire price is just a coupa more bucks thAn Chaparral. And same as above, with one exception, for the last 20+ years I've been dealing with them, only one time has a wheel (just the rim) been scared...it really wasn't THAT big, but it did happen..! I'm headed there tomorrow.! Mike | ||

I have gone to several places here in north San Diego area, from a couple of small independent shops to the larger dealerships (Yahama, etc). Mostly I just take them the wheel now to save on the installation costs, but they will do the whole thing too if you want. Alan | ||

Did you see the thread on removing the front wheel? Brakes are super easy.... don't even need to unbolt the caliper. A front bike stand (T-Rex or Pit Bull) is nice. The first few times I just used ratchet straps from the garage rafters. | ||

PM sent JC I have not seen that thread yet but will check it out. I have the rear stand for the R but not the front so, I may have to follow what you did Catalan and hang the hike from the rafters in the garage. Thanks for the insight fellas. | ||

Like JC said, I've been going to quaid since I bought my 01 X1 from them. IMO, when it comes to service, I can only stand to deal with Gordon, (short, bald guy) and when it comes to working on Buells, the mechanic Nick knows his stuff. Just call in and make an appointment before bringing your bike in, and DON'T expect a call from them in a timely manner when it's done. Cycle Gear charges I think 20 bucks per tire, but you have to bring the rims in off the bike. There are a ton of mom and pop shops around, but since Temecula motorsports does it for 15 bucks, I might check them out for my next tire change. | ||

Quiad wanted $87 to change the front tire labor only, i took the wheel off the bike in 10 minutes and had cycle gear mount and balance for $20. really glad i did it my self, I always feel better turning the wrenches, when its my a$$ on the bike. The only mechanics I really ever trusted are ktm Temecula on Jefferson, but they are moving to corona. I heard from some people on here that San Diego Harley can work on buells, and if i have any big warranty items, that's where I am going to take my bike. Otherwise I order parts from Latus HD and fix it myself. | ||

somewhat related...somewhat not. anyone tried the bb's or ceramic beads used for balancing a tire from the inside? special stem or whatever... Used on a 4x4, but supposedly also work on a bike. |
