thought someone might like a nice laugh...been a harley rider for about 12 years now, always insured, got the xb9r last november on a whim....loved it, still love it.

called progressive for a quote, $386 a year or so. not terrible, got the bike, got the insurance through my local guy, same quote.

got the bill....$800...freaked out. cancelled that one in a heartbeat. got american family for $675 a year. not like a harley, but better than $800.

read all these horror stories of insurance skyrocketing for renewals and started looking a few months ago. found cycle-gard (geigo for cycles) at $381 a year...WOW WOW WOW....super happy.

waited to get it until my current policy came due to avoid penalties, and i got my renewal today from american family....$196 a year. yes, $ 1 9 6 . 0 0 a year.

what the hell happened, did they realize it's NOT a jap bike, realize it's made by a division of harley, or did they realize I'M OLD???

1586 for an 03 xb9r
But I am 27
Can you say ouch
It was going to be almost 4000, thats four thousand dollars a year before I told them I was military.
If they were smart that would have made it go up, not down

Progressive raised their rates in many states this year. They upped mine 70% so I switched to Dairyland for $450 on my XB9S.

What is American Family? Is it part of the AARP? What coverage do you have? Oh yeah, what state (beside shock) are you in?

1600 and change a year for me. Im with American Home something or other. Progressive and Geiko both wanted over 4k for me. I live in Texas, Im single, Im 31, I have a racing ticket from November 2001 in my Camaro. No other infractions on the books (either because they havent happened or deferred adjudication).
I ride an XB9S 2003

Love to see what others in my area are paying, help me get some companies to go to in a year.

I had progressive on my Cyclone. The first year it was ~$360. The second year it dropped to $162. No explanation from customer service, they just said they like to pass along the savings when they can.

I was going to go with progressive on the XB12R but they don't offer full coverage in NC. Now I'm with Alpha P&C for $1131/year.

Oconner! Have you tried USAA? I pay something like $150 +- on my Blast!. My insurance for 2 cars and a motorcycle is less than 1/2 of Geiko's quote without the motorcycle. 800-531-8111 will get you there, or try usaa.com. Military (active and reserve) only...

I'm with USAA too. Full coverage on my X1 runs $800 a year. No tickets or accidents. I have another MC and a truck insured with them as well. You'd think I'd get a better rate. You can join USAA up to one year after discharge, and stay forever even if you are no longer affiliated.

I bet if you modify your X1 by fitting it with a stock Blast! engine, it would drop your insurance rates drastically! Of course other things would drop drastically too ...

Careful with CycleGard. They're just fine until you actually make a claim.

To be honest, they paid the claim and were very nice about it. When it came time to renew, though, my rates went up by just better than the $$ the paid out on the claim. This seems to be SOP for GEICO, btw.

Ended up switching to HD insurance for about 1/2 what I was paying originally.

I got paranoid/scared after reading previous posts on insurance costs for the XB's, but when I insured mine it came out to a whopping $34 a year (not a typo). It should be known that I only carry liability on it and that there are 3 other bikes on the same policy......

Odd, most of my insurance bill is liability. The collision portion is only about a third of it.

That's about, if I recall, where I am on the Buell. By the way, I was cruising the Westchester area near Grasslands Road yesterday and WOW...what a display of fall colors!

Hey hey my State Farm agent is letting me put storage insurance on my bike for the winter.Which is costing me $25.00 for 5 months and all I have to do is call them when I'm ready to pull it out of storage. My rate is at $34.00 a month so thats gonna cost me $228.00 for the riding season.Thats $253.00 a year, not bad for a XB12S.

I pay around $600 for my 9S, my wife made me jack up the numbers, no problem...however I received an update from Progressive a few days later , they had increased the price to just over a grand.

It turned out they had quoted me on the X1..which I thought would be cheaper to repair , being a tuber and older technology, anyway to cut a long story short, I rang them immediately ,kicked up a stink and they restored the previous price while telling me I would have to pay the new rate next year

Well duh, maybe , but next year I will be looking around for an insurance company where the staff listen and can read.

bought a x1m this year in april, my insurance co. wanted around $750.00 a year to insure full coverage. so i called harley davidson financial and got it for around $250.00 a year full coverage with no lay off in the winter. this was after a tip from a dealer that they insure buells as if they were sportsters.
