Ok, I have a 2003 XB9S. I bought a cable on ebay, downloaded ECM Spy online and updated the drivers (have windows7 but was making sure they loaded correctly). Now the program connects to my bike, I downloaded my stock eeprom to my computer, but cannot upload the 2003 Race Map that was included with the CD. It tells me that the firmware version is out of date and wont work. Any ideas of how to fix this? It's probably something stupid that I missed but, yeah, I need help.

Also, I have the air box delete and a jardine slip on muffler. Anyone know of any better maps to use or have suggestions in mapping something better?

I think the latest version is ECM_Spy_1.12.27.
Check and see what version you have when you launch the program. If you have an older version then you can download it from the link in the first post of this forum:

Link removed, please don't link to the downloads, thanks! : )

Trytic, you should be able to open the Race Map file (not the whole EEPROM), then click the Burn Map button to write it to your ECM. If you burn the whole EEPROM you are likely to cause more problems.

First what firmware is it that you have in the ecm?

2003 used Firmware BUECB in two flavors both interchangeable to that year only. the 050 and 060. In the 060 you will find 3 variances of that one. P&A 101 and two of P&A 102 with slightly different data. burn away any version of this 2003 only from race to stock they all are the same and go fine between the ecms.

now the Bueib and Buegb maps and eeprom do not fit the older BUECB, therefore that is a bust. However, you can burn the maps only from the Buegb and Bueib back and fourth. Just not the whole eeprom.

now if you want to get fancy. I have a little ingenious tool that makes blends of any firmware as a file to the firmware you need matching your ecm based on byte length and location as per header and name. I can take the firmware from any xb or 1125 ecm and force a blend putting all the data from one into the other making a stock ecm a true race ecm not just maps only. some tool are not shared YET because they are for future releases of Stuff in the works...

This college learning is a slow process but I'll get there. You will get new stuff as normal once I figure out more language stuff. I cant get much help cause last time it went south and we all see how that ended. Therefore I'm on my own slowly inching away at this.

How do I tell what firmware the ecm currently has? That very well maybe the problem, that I am using one thats doesnt link up.

now, heres my problem. the files that came with my cable are all eeprom replacements. where can i files that are just race maps?

on the top right on the eeprom page. Firmware version top box. cal number lower box.

to get just maps. you seen to be very new. you cant burn the wrong one to the 2003 ecm only BUECB maps and eeproms for 2003 ecm. No others will work.

if you have eeprom files.

stock replacement at they are named. and you do not have the TXT file version you are stuck. Ecmspy uses the TXT file. if you have the xpr.bin or epr sheet someone downloaded my files and put them on a disk then sold it to you. Sorry if you got scammed. stock replacement files are free...

1. now load the TXT eeprom file
2. go to the file tab and click that
3. click save maps and name it stock as per ecm type.
4. this is the file to load to the other ecms.

A. (2003 is one version)two style versions as eeprom or maps.

B. 2004 to 2007 use two versions "IB310 and GB231" all inner changeable on the maps.msq but not the full eeprom. All GB 231 are interchangeable as full files and all IB310 are interchangeable but not crossing IB and GB versions.

If you mix it up it will break the ecm most of the time... Then you will have to buy a new one to get it unlocked or send it to me to get fixed. even with a special program I have had a small hand full not fix. you can't fix them with ecmspy once messed up.

I wonder why the guy Illegally distributing the ECMSPY is not helping when he sure seems to like selling.
A little foot not. I was the one whom got the first USB RS232 to tll 5 volt cable (FDTI) and linked with it. before those we had to make the tiny little board as a comport. A messy little gadget. I tried the cable from a robotics test and it worked when we were not sure it would. back then only a few places had these cables and I paid something like $67.00 for a single unit and wired it directly with no plug. now many state they figured it out, However it was done before ecm went fully public way back. A land before I ever was on badweb or right when I joined. We used the FDTI because it was convenient. However their are many companies who make the same chip and cables.

I have a wifi link, and Tim and I did the first bluetooth "we were originally told it would not work" as well as first full wireless remote through a cell phone while riding a bike. we all see where the wireless went it did work and worked as a wifi, RF and bluetooth. I even have a platform where you plug the cable into your pc and I fetch the data to my pc using yours as a port and you see nothing on your screen. The whole program is on mine.

I got a few tools and a bit of data ....

I hope the history helps and the steps as well to making the map files.
