Hello everyone. I am getting really close to making my final decision on a exhaust. One thing I noticed with V Twin's that have pipes is that some resonate in the helmet terrible and are almost more annoying than enjoyable. If you own a aftermarket exhaust I would appreciate it if you replied to this thread letting me know if its annoyingly loud inside a full face helmet. Thank You
I have a Barker exhaust and its not annoying at all with a full face helmet! The stock exhaust was too quiet! I couldn't tell if my bike was running with the helmet on!
I guess it depends on the type and brand of helmet, how sensitive your hearing is, etc. I run a Jardine muffler on my Uly and when I use my Nolan modular helmet, the resonance does get annoying, yet, when I wear my HJC helmet it isn't half as bad. I run a HMF muffler on my 1125R and, despite having a very loud idle, I hear very little resonance riding and is actually very enjoyable. Of course, The cheapest way to eliminate the resonance is to not create it in the first place and just run the stock exhaust. Second cheapest is earplugs.
I agree with Zane. I have a Barkers on the 1125 and with an HJC I still wear ear plugs. On the M-2 I have a Westtek pipe and wear no ear plugs, the1125 has a completely different sound when it's uncorked.
Though I have a Barker exhaust on my CR, I always wear ear plugs if I'm going far enough to have to get on the freeway.
Even the quietest helmet I've "ever" had was a Nolan, years ago, I still wear ear plugs. Not because of the exhaust, but because of the wind noise.
While the Barker sounds like its name...pounds pretty hard at idle, at speed, it has a nice smooth sound to it. The Highway Patrol don't even seem to mind it.
I've had the CF and aluminum jardines on previous 1125R's and they were fine. But My Vrod with vance and hines drag pipes rattles my brain! It is alot more quiet with my helmet off!
My Barker reverberates inside my Shoei RF900 and that's with the least restrictive quiet core installed. Ear plugs are a must for anything more than around town riding.
My DRZ400sm has a D&D full exhaust, It doesnt resonate at all. I think its because of its deep tone. The Vrod was like a high pitched screaming Vtwin. Kind of like the carbon fiber Jardine. I think as long as that Keda is as deep as it sounds in the vids it will be the best choice. Thanks everyone
