hello everybody, i am new to the world of 2-wheeles and am very happy to be here. I took the Rider's Edge through a HD dealership here, and decided that my first bike would be a blast. i got it with 5200+ miles and have put another 3000+ on it since january, until last week. I went to shift into 1st, got a weird thud and it wouldn't shift above neutral. I was only a few miles from my house and decided to coach it there. then, by accident, I went to shift to 2nd out of habit and of course it only went into neutral. i wwent back to first and "PANG!!!!"... no more gears. Clutch is fine (i know because when i released it the drive sprocket locked up and ripped the belt so i need another one of those too). i was thinking the clutch forks so i started trying to price them but can't seem to find them anywhere... any suggestions? There are no replaceable forks or fingers in your clutch. Your shift drum is operated by hooks which catch and pull metal pins set in its end. One of the hooks has broken. The "Pang" may have been your gearbox locking up and destroying the cluster of gears themselves, or the broken hook may have lodged somewhere. When you remove the primary cover, the damaged hook will be visible. Remember the nut that holds the clutch is reverse threaded. |

thanks... i'll be going a little deeper tonight when i get off work. i have it almost completely taken apart. i have 2 very good friends that are mechanics and have been a huge help with the tools that i don't have. i'm having trouble finding any parts for the blast in general. do you know of any good sites for trans parts or am i too late? |

Pull the primary cover and check chain tensioner. Once upon a time, mine broke and a piece jammed the shifter (not to mention the chain disintegrated and spread metal shavings through the primary and trans). |

The primary cover is already off and so is the other side. Everything looks pristine on both sides.... |

The part you're looking for is the shift pawl assembly. It's under the primary chain. Remember, drive sprocket normal thread, clutch retaining nut left hand thread. Did you look at the primary oil as it drained? If a metal part broke near a moving chain, you have shavings in there. Starting fluid and a rag will get most of them out. |

WOW!! I think that you're totally right, but what threw me off was the drive belt snapping. However that can be explained by the clutch not fully disengaging then going into gear at 20mph so i figured that the trans had totally locked-up until i got into the case and played around. |

after trying to adjust the shift pawl and the shifter wouldn't move at all, we reopened the case and began to mess with the shift forks. gears 1&2 fork was totally locked. turns out that a small bur had formed on the shift drum and shredded the inside of tha fork putting shards of metal into groove and marring and locking it up. that pang was the drive belt snapping from a sudden gear lock. But thanks for the advice. |
