I've got an XB9SX, and put a set of Q2s on it at the end of last summer. I proceeded to rub through an oil line at a track day. Not fun when you come off the track and your headers are smoking as you drip oil all over... the tech types don't like you too much either until you point out that none of it actually drips out, just onto the headers and into the chin fairing. I wasn't riding it terribly hard over the winter, so I didn't see any other problems, and thought that my oil lines were just a bit far forward. Now that it's warmer, I've been getting more aggressive with the brakes, and I definitely still have rubbing issues. I've got some wear marks on the chin spoiler, some wear marks on the oil lines, and some wear marks on the voltage regulator (? I think - the finned box on the front). Has anyone else run into this with Q2s? Or is anyone running Q2s without a problem? I've heard the front tire is "taller" in profile than some others, and I'm wondering if it just doesn't work well with the XBs. As far as I can tell, everything is in a sane place, and I haven't noticed any massive head bearing wear that would cause some major shifting in the suspension. I had the front forks rebuilt shortly before I put the Q2s on, and the dealership didn't make any comment about the bearings either. Thoughts? I can post pics if it would help. | ||

i just got Q2s for my GFs XB12s but neither of us have had the chance to ride them hard yet. in normal riding it hasnt rubbed anything so far. maybe double check that you have the right size front tire? another thing to check is your front suspension. do you have it set up properly for your weight and riding style? maybe you need more preload or compression damping in the front? | ||

I'll double check the tire size... I never even thought of that. The suspension was set to trackday specs, but even if it was totally wrong, it shouldn't be rubbing. | ||

Interesting. I have the Ss, probably has more clearance, but I never had problems with the Q2 street or track. Have also run super tall Power One "V" race tires without problems. | ||

They're 120/70/17s. This is, as far as I can tell, the correct size. I'll try to get a few pictures up. The previous owner did swap some stuff around - I'm wondering if it's possible that the front suspension he put on isn't quite right for this. I was under the impression all the XBs had the same front suspension setup, but that may not be correct. ... of course, I sold the other set of forks the bike came with, not having run into any problems at that point. |
