So...laid the bike down on Thursday...after pulling it apart and checking out the damage here's the parts that need to be fixed. The bike is a 2009 CR and I would need...passenger seat...it's ripped- sub frame- the part under the sub frame where the rear light is...it has a large crack in it- the skin that sits on the sub frame has some rash but looks as though it could be wet sanded out- exhaust headers- front break leaver- swing arm has very little rash on it (doesn't necessary need to be re-placed) skin on front right pod was scrapped bad- fly screen and LF pod needes to be re-painted ( I just had them painted white)- front master cylinder cover- the cluch cover has small rash...and in the reck the cluch line loosed up and I lost my cluch...however today I bleed the cluch and it seems to be working fine- cheap bar end mirrors off eBay-So really the only thing that needs to be replaced is the sub frame and the right pod. My question is can I use the sub frame off a xb 9 or 12...my detuctable is $1000...and how much are exhaust headers? |

the XB subframes mounting points are completely different. if you can live with teh scratches and imperfections, and want to DIY then i'd say run with it. if you want to turn back time and make it like it never happened, pick up the phone. be careful they don't total it. re-sale values are allready low-enough |

Straighten the sub-frame and weld it. Recover the rear seat or get the plastic cover to go over it. Sand patch and repaint the other things. Insurance companies have not heard of motorcycle paint yet. They just want to replace with new or total it. |

Do it your self! Insurance will raise your rates, its never worth it. I had to buy $3k in parts when my bro wrecked, i needed a new frame, new plastics, ic, seat, and a lot of other parts. I got everything i could through ebr, they are great. I learned a lot about my bike through fixing it, and respect Erik Buell a lot more seeing how well the bike is engineered. |

Post up some pictures so we can give you a better opinion, but most of it sounds cosmetic and easy to paint/replace. You can buy a replacement subframe from Erik Buell Racing (although the web shop is closed for the rest of the month). |

If you bought it during the fire sale, call the insurance company. ac |

Sorry guys I don't know how to get the pictures off my phone onto the web-site- I did some hunting on e-bay found a sub frame for $300 bucks shipped-I'm going to buy the rest of my parts and still be under the $1000 deductible-it sounds like a fun project to fix myself and get to know my bike a little better-I love this bike to much to chance the insurance company totaling it out. Like you mentioned in the post most of the stuff is cosmetic and should be an easy fix. |
