i have been trackin my S1.... i love it !! but it's time to move on... looking for a XB... what would be your choice...track/street... | ||

the 9 revs quicker and higher, but have less umph starting down low the 12 has more grunt but red lines a little sooner. day to day; i find the S to be more fun, comfy and i feel like i have a better awareness of my surroundings. but i am windsail on the highway. on the track or alot of wind/highway- go with an R. it'd be up to your riding preferences and/or track | ||

2004 and 2005 have been the most trouble free and you can get one for a good price! Just my opinion. | ||

What years? That's a loaded question - everyone will say to get the year they have. What is a fact is that many upgrades were introduced in the 2008 model year, and I just happen to have a 2008.  | ||

2010 was the best year, when was the last time you saw anyone have an issue with one?  In all seriousness, they are all good, different years have different pros and cons, but nothing is a deal breaker. | ||

You can get the 12s to spin to 7200 rpm without issue... Just saying. | ||

All 03-04 XB's have 41mm forks. In 2005, they switched to 43mm forks on all but the low model, rear shock never changed. All XB9R, 12R, 9S, 12S, 9SX, 12SX of a given year have the same suspension. Only changes in suspension was going from the 41 to 43mm in 2005, and then for 09 the forks are black instead of silver. | ||

05's were the most reliable and blue with amber rims had 15 more hp than other color combos. | ||

I really like the STT. Slightly taller suspension, great on the track. They set up easily for poor weather with addition of heated grips and vest/jacket wiring + adding windscreen appendages (Laminar Lip or Palmer brackets and screen). I believe the Ss got the same suspension, only an inch shorter, same long frame of the STT/ULY, though the suspension may have been the same after 08. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Hey I am in the same boat... Had an X1 loved and unfortunately I had to sell it a couple of years ago...bought a softail last year and sold it...liked the buell better... I am looking at an 04 with 5k miles... firebolt... what kinda money should I be looking at spending??? Thanks for the feedback.. | ||

I've had 7 different XB's, and the newer they got the less problems they had. None of them had major problems except a '07 XB12 that fried it's brains. The '08 XB9's would start and die when cold, then restart and run. Both of them also had a flat power spot then surge at around 4500 when accelerating My '09 XB12 had decel popping. The latest, a '10 city cross is trouble free after 10 months and 5K. What a sweet bike ! | ||

Popping on decel indicates a lean condition and should be able to tune it out with ECM spy. It's pretty normal, and really shouldn't be called a problem. Many sport bikes here (5,000 ft) do the same thing due to the many changes in elevation going from the valley up canyon roads here. One local Bueller did find factory programming on his 08 worked the best though. Plenty of bikes on the track pop under deceleration. | ||
