Just a thought (I may have cobsed up here!!). I brought a 2009 1125r with the wiring harness update. As I was installing a K&N filter I decided to de-noid by removing the noid cable. No problems, but as I was putting it all back together I came across a little grey plug which I hadnt noticed before. It fitted back into the noid as far as I can remember. Question is should I have just left it out? Cheers, John |

Manor, there is a grey male plug that comes from the ecm, it plugs into a short plug on the harness upgrade. There is a grey plug that comes out from under the air box cover, which plugs into the harness upgrade, that plug is the noid plug, but it gives power to the harness relay. there is another grey plug coming from the harness upgrade that plugs into the noid. |

update on my de-harness. Riding to work I noticed the voltage would vary between 13.2-14.4. It seemed odd that it varied so much without the harness, but with the harness it was almost always 13.7-14.1 while cruising. I guess the battery doesn't need as much charging, since it's actually getting a charge at idle now. Just thought I'd share. I'll make a note of my mileage and post up as soon as my stator dies. |

Bueller4ever -Keep it coming! I need to start making some notes as well on my Compufire unit. So far I'm at 388 miles and all is well, I did do more time in traffic and long red lights too and I saw my lowest dip down to 13.5, but the volts seem to jump back up quicker than before. |

Finedaddy - If you're monitoring voltage with the IC it lags quite a bit compared to what is really happening. I've connected a multimeter to the battery and it changes instantaneously when blipping the throttle while the IC doesn't change at all. It can take seconds for the IC to update. |

I went to the Compufire website and they have several models of regulators. Which did you use? |

Hmmmmm. On this webpage: http://www.compufire.com/harley-main.html They snow only 551xx series products. A google search shows it at http://www.debrix.com/Voltage-Regulator-For-Compu- Fire-3Phase-System-p/cf55402-mca.htm Is this where you got it? |

Compufire is waiting on me to supply them the cable lengths we would like for the VR. I need to measure the factory length, but would like to add a couple of inches to make Stator R & R a little easier. Does anyone have the factory wire length on hand? Otherwise I'll measure it tonight. Length for stator wires = ? Length for battery wires = ? Thanks Rob |

9 inches. (3) stator wires and the (2) +/- wires, they are equal length. I knew that old R/R would come in handy for something. |

So, in the end. If someone had to choose, which should they go with? Compufier or the FH0012/14? Why? |

Personal preference.... Compufire will have the Buell connectors so it is plug and play. FH0012 or 14 will need to be spliced with your connectors, estimate about $50 cheaper. Both would be a huge improvement overstock VR. |

Well, mounting is a bit issue with the FH0012. I've found that out personally. Put it under my passenger seat and I'm finding that it gets really hot in stop and go traffic. The passenger space is just to tight and doesn't vent well until you're moving. Sitting it becomes and oven. |

I'm mounting the Compufire in the OEM position and cutting the undertray as outlined by Finedaddy1 in his write-up. More air circulation for the VR. |

I was thinking of mounting on the underside of the tail. Speaking of air flow... |

I am thinking (this is sometimes not good) that the compufire is NOT a shunt type regulator and therefore will not generate much heat. |

Tbwdre- You are correct "will not generate as much heat" where you don't want it, in the stator. |

How about it's charging abilities. In stop and go traffic where you're sitting, temps are rising, fans are running and your nuts are cooking. What charge numbers are you seeing then with the Compufire? |

13.5 W/nuts cooking. |

9k is pretty decent mileage for a 1125 stator. Hell, that ain't bad for a motorcycle stator in general. huh? my 08 is at 24k miles and still on the factory stator. my understanding is that the 09's have issues, but you need to be more specific. 9k miles on an 09 1125 is probably good, but stators should just about never go out in general. |

I have not installed it. But these are some possibilities: back of license plate inside the airbox underneath the front fairing |

Just cut my under tray and organizing wires today. OEM install as illustrated here is nice and easy. good/decent air flow, close to connections. There should be no reason to change location with new regulator. thanks finedaddy1 for all the guidance |

Pizzaboy, visit some other motorcycle forums are just do a google search. This is the first bike i've owned that the stator quit, but i've only owned 5 motorcycles. If I had owned 100 and 1 had a stator failure, then I could say it's a rare thing to happen. |

For those of you that have removed the under tray how hard is the tray to remove, and time involved. thanks |

not difficult to remove under tray. However it is kinda like an annoying puzzle putting everything back together. The trick is doing it without sharp bends in the wires, pinching wires or just down right forgeting where to route a huge hunk of harness... LOL Ill have my stator back in this weekend. and then only time will tell |

I mounted the FH012AA under the passenger seat and formed some vent holes in the undertray and local to the tail light, no issues so far with excess heat. |

I have an '09 1125R with 15,002miles. At around 9K miles my stater went out (lucky I had 3 more months on the warrenty) The dealer replaced the stater and did the wiring harness upgrade. Since then I have had no problems. I just dont fully understand why I would need to have my stater rewound on need a new v/r. I have a '86 LS650 Savage with the original stater on it and it still works fine. Why does the Buell have issues with it's stater. |
