Good stuff Mark!!! WERA has a guy from Dayton named Bill Smith that raced his XB9. It's warmed up a little bit I'm sure. He is right on pace with the decked out SV Suzuki bikes. I'll have the Black 1125, the White GSXR750 race bike and my kid's White YZF600R Thunder Cat. I'll also be floating between the Pirelli tire trailer and Tech/ Registration. Did I mention Todd and I sell Pirelli tires too? |

Kewl pics Mark. Haven't seen Shawn recently @ a MotoSeries event. Though a good bump on the head in 09 has shortened the memory since. |

Great pics, Mark. Thanks for posting those. I would love to enter a race someday , although I imagine I'd be pretty well behind the pack on my XB9. |

you'd be surprised... you gotta ring its neck but Shawn and I were turning 1:15's at Nelson on basically stock bikes.... plus I was about 40 lbs lighter then... but you'll have that... |

I have a factory race kit on my cityX. What does it take to start racing? I do track days, have all safety gear. My bike passes trackday inspection, but IDK about race prep. |

you just need to safety wire some stuff.. its not that big of a deal. Belly pan and remove some stuff... kickstand.. passenger pegs, lights... add a number plates and you should be good to go. If you do the trackday at Nelson, talk to them about it. You will need to take the class they offer for racing... you will then have your provisional novice license. you will need to complete a couple of races without killing yourself or anyone else and then you will get your novice license.... then you will need to kick some serious ass to get your expert license... and just empty you wallet on the way.... it way worth it! |

Mark, I've transcribed the bike requirements here. For your first day (Instructional) don't worry about wire or silicon. Once you begin to race or progress to the Open group we will require wire and or silicon where permitted. Motorcycle requirements Lower fairings must be removed prior to entering Technical Inspection, NO EXCEPTIONS. Any motorcycle entering Tech Inspection without the lowers removed may be assessed a fine, impeding or harassment of a Tech Inspector may result in disqualification. Belly pans installed on frame cradles may not have to be removed at the discretion of the Tech Inspector (e.g., Vintage or Motards without body-work). All motorcycles must be safety wired as described below. All maintenance, repairs, or race preparations must be done in a workmanlike manner; must also be clean and in good working order. NO ANTIFREEZE. Entering the racing surface with any un-approved coolant will result in disciplinary action and fines. Water or water with Red Line Brand Water Wetter are the only acceptable cooling liquids allowed. Case guards are mandatory for FZRs and air cooled GSXRs. Steering Dampers are mandatory. Any excess brackets, metal fasteners, or protrusions that could impale or entangle must be removed. No turbo charging or super chargers allowed. All motorcycles must have an AMB 260x transponder mounted. The preferred location is the right lower fork leg. If this is not possible, the lowest closest point to the ground position is preferred. Cannot be any further forward on the motorcycle than the front axle. Working kill switch is mandatory. Must be mounted above the top triple clamp or on a handle bar. Belly pans capable of holding 5 quarts of fluid are mandatory. Molded plastic or fiberglass is preferred but any method meeting the required criteria may be approved. All gas tanks must be equipped with an easily accessible pet- except motorcycles originally manufactured without one. A rider or motorcycle will fail technical inspection if improper use or display of the equipment and requirements for any applied contingency. A rider must meet compliance of the applied contingency or remove that contingency from their entry form. Items to be Safety Wired Axle Nuts not captured by Pinch Bolts Pinch Bolts (At least one per leg) Brake Caliper Bolts Muffler Clamp and Bracket Bolts (All) Oil Drain Plug Oil Filter (External filter by hose clamp around the filter wired to a static point) All Fluid line Caps (Radiator Cap, Oil Fill Cap, etc.) Exceptions and Inclusions May have Silicone applied instead of wired: Oil Galley Plugs Fork Oil Drain Screws or Bolts Some Vintage and specific models (FZR, Ducati, or as requested by a Tech Inspector) may require additional wiring; which may include: All Pressurized Oil and Cooling Lines Externally Adjustable Cam Chain Tensioner Removable Exhaust Baffles or Cap Speedometer and Tachometer Cables Stay Arm Bolts

Thanks Jeff. My bike IS trackday ready, but not raceday ready. Would you be so kind as to spend a few minutes with me sometime during the day and go over my bike and tip me on what I need to do? I am stoked for this. Hoping for good weather. |

Getting close to the Blessing of the Bikes! Fingers, legs, and eyes are crossed for no rain. It sprinkled last year there but rain held off. Next Saturday 5/14/11 Buckeye HD (formerly F&S) in Dayton is having a Grand Opening with a stunt rider and some festivities. I think I'm going to check it out. If I can convince my wife to get on the back. |

Not a trackday post, I'm to old and fat for that anyway. I don't bounce no more when I hit...sounds like a bag of beer bottles hitting the ground now a days. but I got my Road Pilots II mounted today and even though it was colder AND wetter that I like went for a short ride. Much better that the old worn out tires that came off. The bike feels a lot lighter and the falling in to a turn feeling I was is gone. Just waiting on pads and I'll be good to go for the blessing. |

Dang...I am so tired of this rain!! Looks like Sunday and Monday are supposed to finally be a couple nice days...and then thunderstorms and rain all week, through the weekend. :-( Of course, it's Ohio, so the weather forecast will change about 10 times before the ride. The blessing itself has a rain date for the following Sunday, so I'll be keeping an eye on that as well. Cross your fingers, say your wishes and pray to whatever God/Goddess you worship for good weather! |

Sweet Stuff!!!! I knotted my back into a tight, taught, twisted mess this morning while stringing new lights on the trailer that hauls my babies to the track. Fate is a cruel, miserable b!@?^.... Hopefully the spasm goes away sometime before tomorrow morning or I'm going to be an a hell of a lot of pain loading the bikes.... See y'all @ Nelson. |

Gotcha Mike....maybe we'll see you Sunday morning. On the other hand, the forecast isn't looking very positive. The temp at 60' is okay, but add in rain and...it's just not going to be enjoyable enough for me and the wifey to go. Yeah, I know...not very "bad weather biker-ish" of me. LOL Hopefully the weather forecast clears up by Sunday morning though!! |

I want to go BUT I don't feel like riding over to Northstar just to turn around and ride back right by my house. If you can give me a time you plan to leave there I'll hook up with you guys at Ohio 4 and 334, about 1 1/2 mile form my home in Springfield. Guessing it'll take about 45 mins to an hour to make it this far. Dennis C has my number. Birdy |
