I am trying to figure out what handlebars or risers to get to make my XB12Ss a little more comfortable to ride. I am looking to raise them of course and get into a more relaxed riding position. The problem is that I don't know what I want! natch... I have never changed bars before. How high to go? How far back do I go? I found some 1" risers on American Sport Bike (http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/16201.html) or these risers/rotators (http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/16108.html) but I don't know if this is enough to get me where I want to be. I guess my question is how much of a rise/shift back should I try to get? Is 1" enough or is that just sort of a tweaking distance. I also don't know the dimensions on the stock bar. I think (lots of malpractice insurance there) that it is 3.75" and 7/8" diameter. I don't know the width or the pullback (if I am using that phrase right, the rotation toward the back of the bike at the bottom of the hands) does any one know these measurements? by the way I am 6'2" tall with long arms. I am hoping to be able to save some money by not buying things that don't work for me. any help from you guys is greatly appreciated. |

The 1" risers will do what you want with minimal effort. 1" can make a huge difference (thats what she said). Funny thing, I took my SS to work today since both of my 1125's are in the shop for service, and I forgot how much I hate the uprightness of the stock XB bars. |

Think about how much cable you have before that becomes an added cost. |

I'm also taller and have been thinking about risers and/or bar switch. I guess ill follow Ourdee's question with his own question? How much cable is there left to raise? Will a 1" rise force the need for a longer cable? 2", etc Thanks for bringing that point up. I hadn't even considered that. |

Well I think I could get a 1" rise without any cable changes. I am just eyeballing it. 2" and I am sure I would have to replace the break line and most likely the clutch cable. Break lines I know are easy to get made by the inch but I don't know about a place to get Clutch Lines. or for that mater Throttle Cables if they have to be changed at 2" of course mine seem to have so much resistance that it might be time to change them anyway. It seems like everyone is saying 1" makes a lot of difference so I certainly wouldn't need more than 2" or ape hangers for that mater though I have ridden one of those before (in the way way back) there is something wrong with the bars above your head. :-P |

What Froggy said...that's why I put a set of Clubman bars off an 1125CR onto my XB12S. Now...it sits almost like my...1125CR.. Sorry, can't help with going even higher and leaning backward...just unnatural. Mike |
