okay, just got done changing both tires on my Suzuki S-50 cruiser, so I had to take the wheels off so I could get a shop to put the new rubber on, was kind of a pain, not really hard just time consuming, is the Buell XB any easier?

also, can you use a normal lift (that goes under the muffler I guess) for the XB or do you have to get a swing arm lift? isn't there instructions on how to make and adapter for a normal lift that cups the muffler? can anyone point me to that?

thanks

Can't comment on the XB vs zuki, but I will say the XB is easy to do, and once you get the hang of it is no problem. I will be making a wheel removal guide to help show what to do, but if you haven't yet get your hands on a service manual and read over the procedure.

You can make an adapter to use the muffler lift, but I don't recommend it, as it is more trouble than its worth and you will still need tie down straps to secure it to the jack. Also that will require you know what you are doing, as the adapters can and will break sending your bike tumbling.

I recommend regular stands, you can get the Pit Bull brand ones from American Sport Bike.

I really don't want to spend another $300 for stands for the buell, I spent $80 for the lift for my zuki,

looks like I'm letting the shop change my tires on the buell . ..

But what are they gonna charge you to also pull the wheels for you? I've just got a cheapie rear stand, and I use a normal jack under the front of the muffler to get the front off the ground, boom...both wheels off simultaneously. Cheap route, and your set for future tire changes.

The shop I go to now only charges $10-$20 more to take the wheel off the bike, but since I already have the stands...

I jacked up the front at the muffler, put boxes under the front fork ends (spacer under the short one), with the bars strapped to the lift, then switched to the rear muffler jacking point, then raised the rear end. It was stable for the few days the rims were at the shop for new tires. It was not much more effort than using the pit stands I got since.

here is the thread for the jack template . i use it all the time and , i know im a fool, i don't even strap it down. use this one time and with the money you save by taking the wheels off your self, you can get proper stands. just my 2 cents.

I just use a cheap jack I bought at Walmart (minus the front wheels as it's too tall to fit under the muffler with the wheels) and have had no problem. I can only take off one wheel at a time, but it just makes the tire change a two-day job instead of getting it done all at once.

I typically take my rims to Cycle Gear for the change and buy the tires there too. Their prices are very competitive. They charge $20/tire and you can get road hazard insurance for each tire too. I've used it once already and it paid for itself.

loosen all the bolts that is needed to remove the wheels and on the kickstand and two blocks of wood under the muffler is enough

Mount the tires yourself! Cost me maybe $200 for TRex stands, a couple tire spoons, a 4' section of 2x4 (leverage to break the bead), and a bicycle air pump. There are several youtube videos if you need guidance. Seriously, it's not rocket science! Only takes a couple hours, and pays for itself in 2-3 tire changes.

NOTE:

Only stock and factory race mufflers are designed to be used as a lift point.

Think I need to make an adapter and get a decent jack.
