Been riding all week. Went to start this morning and all it does it crank over with random fire here and there and once i get it to actually fire it will not hold idle. then die...similar symptoms to a dead/dying battery. I have a new battery... ECM spy says my battery is at 9 volts and goes down to 6 when I crank it... My volt meter says I have 12.5 Volts... It has to be electrical I just know it. what am I missing? The following is new... stator, alternator, battery, ignition relay, starter relay. Any help is appreciated. again. Everything was working 24 hours ago... Beginning to not like FI |

Battery connections, frame grounds. . There is the main wiring harness ground underneath the left rear of the fuel tank that gets overlooked. You can see it but can't check/clean without lifting the back of the tank. |

I have never had accurate voltage reading thru ECMspy. It always shows 2-3 volts less than actual. |

Kalali, thanks for posting that as I've noticed slightly lower V with Ecmspy also and thought it odd verses my vom. |

Okay so here is the update... Still no start. Battery is fully charged rear ground straps have been cleaned and tightened... Now my starter solenoid will click click click...then I will turn it off Try again and it turns the motor but no start... It's intermittent on and off with the clickity click. I have power everywhere except no start...again everything was working 48 hours ago... Question... If the starter is toast but still somewhat turns is it possible for it not to have enough torque to start the motor?? I'm looking at all possible options... But then why would it not hold idle when I had it going? |

Have you checked out your fusebox? Mine looked fine from above but the contacts were all corroded. Mine was a no-start but it didn't even click. Solution was cheap/easy: take out each fuse, scrape rust off apply WD40 and reinstall. Those two black relays are the same as each other too. You could try swapping them to see if anything changes. |

First of all you can not use a d'Arsonval VOM meter to check start voltage because it will act as a load due to the design of the meter ... The meter to use is a ELECTRONIC VOM as it dose not load electronic ckts(these can be bought at Wal-Mart/Harbor Freight for a very few dollars) ... Hook the ELECT. VOM a cross the battery with ignition on and press the starter switch ... The meter can not read less than 9 VOLTS ... If less than 9 VOLTS the battery does not have enough START VOLTS to start motor ... JUST BECAUSE YOU BUY A NEW BATTERY DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN IT WILL START YOUR ENGINE ... WHAT IS THIS VOLTAGE READING ??? |

Last year mine started acting funny, and out of no where it would shut off and would not come on and or stay at idle by itself..... Started checking fuses, wires, fuel, fuel filter and lines, when I noticed the fuel pumps "wire" power connection located underneath the tank was dirty with some corrosion, real easy fix and the bike rand perfectly there after.... Give a try..... |

Unhook the speed-o-meter and see what happens Mine did that year before last, searched forever before some good folks here pointed it out. If the speed sensor goes bad it acts like a kill switch. |

Update... I fixed my bike!!!! My fuel pump regulator was pooched. Took out my fuel pump and to what a surprise I found. Pump had been replaced once before, rust all over the pump one of my screws holding down the regulator was hanging on by a thread and rubber gaskets made out of inner tube!!! Replaced with a new/used pump and boom fired right up! Thank you all for your input to help me with my bike. Much appreciated! |
