As i understand it the E.B.R ecm raises the rev limit a little bit.

Will hitting the rev limiter frequently (but only for a second or so) during a long wheelie hurt my engine ? oil is always changed out before the recommended mileage using a quality fully syn.

I'm trying to learn how to shift through the gears whilst on the back wheel, but keep hitting the limiter in 2nd whilst going for 3rd

Avalaugh Most buellers are older and more mature than shifting gears on one wheel so you will get some negative attention with this thread. Myself personally I don't mind I even do it mymyself every once in a while. I can't be 100% positive but I believe the rev limiter is there to prevent damage so IMO you should be good to go!!!!

Each to there own i say, you wont see me flaming others, i expect not to be flamed myself, nothing positive to say then dont. I'm 31 and have heard alot of bullshit talked, but i still listen to all, young and old.

jjudder your a racer, i hope you could point some info my way regarding the raised rev limiter, if it was stock i wouldn't mind bouncing it on occasion, i'm asking if its ok on an already higher limit ?

Ava,

A "squid" is a derogatory term in the US used to refer to the kids riding in t-shirts and flip-flops doing wheelies down the expressway. I posted it as a joke since you were talking about wheelies.

I've banged my bike off the rev-limiter a plenty. I try to avoid it, but it does happen from time to time. I think as long as you aren't making a regular habit of it, you should be OK. I do know it's hard on exhaust systems, though, as some unspent fuel gets dumped down there and you will hear it go boom as you come off the limiter.

I have my race ECM programmed to hard limit at 11,000 and have no soft limit. But, keep in mind when you go to the race ECM and run the motor this hard, you now have a *race* motor, and that means more frequent oil changes, more frequent valve service, more frequent love and care of your machine that you expect the most of now. I had over 15,000 race miles on my first '08 motor, so I know if you take care of them they last.

There's not a lot of torque available between 10.5 and 11, so you should really only use it when you just need a microsecond of motor before a corner, anyway. If you still have a ways to go, picking up another gear around 10k is a better move.

Jdugger

have you ever done a dyno pull to 11k and noticed a higher Hp rating up there??

My race motor dyno'ed at 149 on Texas pump gas, but I didn't see the curve (or even operate the dyno -- the race shop did that) to tell you where the peak was.

I can tell you the motor's pull drops off a bit after 10k. So, like I said, if you still have a ways to go, it's worth an upshift.

That's more like it, thankyou, and as a side note I only ever ride in full leathers, boots, gloves, lid and back protector.

I can buy another bike but only have 1 body.

Correction: The rev limiter on my ECM is a soft rev limit at 11,000, and hard limit at 11,150.

I like wheelies! So long as you're not doing it on the interstate, like almost ever douche on youtube.

I think riding a long wheelie will do more damage than hitting the limiter. I'd make sure you have a little more oil than recommended in the bike, so you don't starve the engine.

yeah, if it was starved for oil, the oil light would come on, i only see it come on under hard braking, which would lead me to believe the oil pick up is in the back of the engine, so a wheelie shouldn't effect the oil pick up.
