can't afford to buy a new pipe right now but my lady's giving me a hard time about my 12 being so much louder than her's i have a jardine on mine, so my friend dave who owns a 07 Uly secured that wire , bike does sound louder, but what's the pro's and cons her's is an 06 with the 07 airbox everything else is stock, i have race ecm in mine
I secured the muffler valve open on a couple of occasions. I've run it both ways one after the other. The bike will have a throatier sound without being to loud however, it will definitely lose a significant amount of low end torque with the valve wired open.
As much as I like the sound, the loss of torque is very noticeable. The designers nailed this design spot on.
If only there was a way to increase the throatiness a little but leave the valve operable, that would be great.
The after market or modified pipes are just to loud for me.
hmm maybe the loss of torque is good for her bike she rides faster at low speed areas then gets on highway and stays under 80 and yet in the hood i cant catch her

Well, there is...
You can reprogram the ecm with ecmspy to open and close the actuator differently. Mine is programmed as follows:
Valve closed below 750 rpm... This helps it start easier Valve open from idle to 3200 rpm... Good sound and good running, plenty of torque yet actually runs smoother & is more controllable. Valve closes at 3200 rpm... The zone from about 3200-4000 rpm is where having the valve wired open really hurts performance... I forget at which rpm it opens again... I left that parameter stock. The valve still opens at any rpm when throttle is wide open... This all works in concert with a remapped fuel map...
Sekalilgai get's the credit for figuring this out:
