I have a 2009 XBscg that is about to hit the 5,000 mark. It is still running dino oil and now the dealer tells me the engine will leak if i switch to synthetic. What all is involved in the 5,000 service. Is the $300.00 worth the service at the dealer? | ||

All I've ever run is synthetic.. Never had a leak in my XB in 9 years. If you have a shop manual and you have some mechanical skill, Do it your self. Easy stuff. | ||

the engine will leak with synthetic oil? really? The buell maintenance book = about $50 Oil = $60 (synthetic is about $14 a quart) Filter = $4 max getting rid of the dependence on that dealer = priceless | ||

The leaking with synthetic thing is a myth, unless you got some old piece of junk that was on its last legs anyway. Do the service yourself if possible, it isn't hard, even without the service manual. It basically is an oil change, and and check over of some other things. | ||

Excellent! Most people learn that a particular dealer is unqualified to work on their bike in MUCH more painful and expensive ways than you learned it! What a bargain! | ||

good grief, what do you buy?! I but Mobil1 syn at Walmart in 5 quart jugs for $22. there is NOTHING tricky at the 5k service. Do it yourself. | ||

Amisol at a motorcycle place not harley, so yeah but it was my first oil change on the bike and figured, I'd heard only good things about amisol so well, I'll spoil the bike for a bit until I'm sure it's mechanically sound and everything, got the bike used. so this was the first changing of fluids deal, next oil change going to be something like Mobil1, but I"m always forget what to look for to buy it so I buy the motorcycle safe stuff | ||

Ah yes. Amsoil IS great stuff, I just can't get myself to spend the $$ on oil! I have been more than satisfied with the Mobil1 syn with about 35,000 miles combined on 3 Buells with the stuff in both holes. | ||

Mobil 1 20w50 V-Twin oil is $10 a quart at autozone, and the xb lump does just fine with it. As others have mentioned, synthetic oil will not make your engine leak. | ||

I just did my 20,000mi service. Switched from Mobil 1 to Amsoil in both. Shifts a lot smother, I think the extra $$ is worth it. Oh, I switched to syn at my 1,000mi service, no leaks yet. | ||

Where are you guys buying your amsoil? I get it for 7.50/qt or $30/gal. | ||

I guess the question is where are you getting it for $7.50/Qt?? Nice work Dallas! I just got it for $9.50/Qt and thought I got a good deal. You can sign up on the Amsoil website to be a preferred customer, pay like $10 bucks and you get wholesale cost. | ||

Roy, you can use Mobile 1 V-twin in the tranny too. I don't know the part # for the filter, but it's the same filter used on the Blast and all XB models. http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/9029.html There's a list on here that crosses that filter with other brands also. | ||

Go with Amsoil, stick with Amsoil! I've had nothing but great experiences with it in both engine & trans. Sure, it may be a couple bucks more, but that's cheap protection as far as I'm concerned. The "synthetic causes leaks" thing is BS. 22,000 miles on my 12R, having switched from dino at 10,000 and still oil tight! Plus I doubt Erik Buell would have signed a 3 year sponsorship deal with them for Erik Buell Racing's AMA Superbike effort, if Amsoil wasn't up to snuff! If Amsoil products are good enough for Erik Buell Racing, they're good enough for me! | ||

Yes front and rear stands make life much easier when you are working on the beast! No more hanging the bike from the rafters or blocks of wood! Worth the investment. I got a set on ebay for half the price of the pit bulls and have been very happy | ||

I tried to find the info on the ones I bought but no luck. It was like 4 years ago so who knows - doesn't look like they are sold on ebay any longer... they are very similar to the pit bulls - I'm sure you'll be very happy with those. | ||

The key is figuring out if the rear stand is wide enough to accept the Buell. I figured out what mine are, they are T-Rex. As I said, I'm very happy with them. http://www.t-rex-racing.com/ | ||
