The kid that races AFM out of our shop has a problem with the bike coming out of second sometimes---anyone had any shifting issues and can shed light on repairs? |

I haven't heard this happening on the 1125, but it's been a problem with a bunch of older sport bikes. The fix is a new second gear and undercutting the gears. |

The bike might also have a worn or bent shift fork that is preventing the gear from fully engaging. I had this problem on my '01 GSX-R600 track bike. I replaced the entire trans with a used trans from Ebay, and the problem wasn't fixed. The new gears were in noticeably better shape, but the problem ended up being worn shift forks. Once I replaced them, the bike stayed in gear and shifted properly. |

I agree with shift fork issue as a culprit... Also have read different oils can play havoc with some boxes. That was on cars though. But may stil be a factor. |

So is this a problem of the gear popping out of second gear or a problem when actually shifting from second to third? |

Maybe the fork is FUBAR, but the gear dogs are also now rounded, so a fork replacement alone will not fix it. I don't know of any particular transmission specialty shops in California...if APE can't do it, maybe Jay and crew can recommend someone. There is a shop in Clearwater Florida called R&D Motorsports that can tackle it i'm sure...call and ask for Mark...a double back-cut is what you need for road racing... |
