I see this has been gone over and I will quickly state that I need the ability to change my gearing for racing. With that said the only options I see is the Erik Buell Racing setup and that's out of my current budget : ) Any one else have anything ?

The Erik Buell Racing kit is a bit expensive, but if you look at the picture, you can see it is more than just a swingarm, sprocket and a chain. I would skip lunch till you could afford it.

Quote from Erik Buell Racing sight " Swingarm kit for all 1125 models. This comprehensive kit from Erik Buell Racing converts the original belt drive to adjustable axle chain drive. The kit includes rigid mount footpegs and footpeg supports. Also, the endurance racing style axle adjusters integrate the rear brake caliper mount and axle nut. The adjusters also incorporate shelves for rapid wheel and gearing changes. A 17 tooth drive sprocket is included. Erik Buell Racing also has 16 and 18 tooth optional sprockets available. The rear wheel sprocket and 520 drive chain are not included. We suggest wheel sprockets from Vortex Racing." No chain or rear sprocket. The kit is complete minus rear sprocket and chain!!!

Touge,

I'm racing the belt drive. It's not ideal, but it's not that bad, either.

Also racing the belt.
It's really not that bad.

Well I was looking into it since I low sided and scraped my swing arm and pulley up. I was also interested in a cr gearing swap as well. I can't seem to get through gears fast enough seems to take forever. Coming from a geared 08 1krr with a good amount of work is hard on the soul.

I've looked into the chain conversion a bit, but it's not just the price of the conversion.
You also have to add a shifter, couple spare wheel prep kits, chain, a handfull of sprockets....
It quickly tops $3000.

....and I just can't do it.

Your 100% right, I have honestly been doing research all day and I will hold off till I come across a cr swap...I'll fix the scratches and repaint the swing arm " Anyone know a spot I can get touch up for this ugly blue? "

out here in the west coast, AFM is the amateur league that runs the cali tracks all season long.

after taking a long hard look at my bike and what it would be up against, i decided that its not even close to being worth doing a chain drive conversion. to sink another 2000 on the bike along with getting the good body work from flexiglass, seems pretty cost ineffective, considering my bike only qualifies for racing against other big twin bikes (aka ducati 999, 1098 etc and KTM)... and the buell is going to be underpowered no matter what.

i think ill just stick to my belt drive, keep my 23k mile (and rapidly increasing thanks to fuel prices!!) bike as a street bike that can go to the track whenever and be a crap load of fun.

for around 4000-5000 bucks, there are numerous fullly decked out track and race bikes for sale around the country. a friend of mine picked up a 07 suzuki 750 in full race trim, traction control, quick shifter two sets of rims, 10 tires, shipped to his door for 4800.

when there are deals like that around, why would anyone want to sink MORE money in their buell?? i dont know about you guys.. but my bike that i paid 13k for in may of 08, is now worth less than 4500 today if i tried to sell it. ive got enough money wrapped up in it.

Guy's, while I'm all about buying stuff from Erik Buell Racing, I'm the same way with the swing arm kit, I just cant toss that kind of money at it. But anyone that can do standard swing arm extensions, they can modify the arm and do a chain conversion. They just open up the end of it and weld in adjusters. Then you've got the cost of sprockets. the total would be less than a grand. I know a shop local to me that will do it. If you want the info shoot me a pm.

I've not looked into doing a chain on my 1125, but why cant one just put sprockets on the stock bike? I know with tube frame bikes you had to have offset sprockets, but big deal.
If ALL you want is a chain for the gearing change, then why do you need everything else?

I did find Froggys post and the one that followed funny, a 'complete kit'......minus chain and sprockets, so everything you need minus another 300+ dollars of equipment.

Bud - Please PM me when you have a chance, want to share some information with you that might be of great assistance, saving you some money

You cant tension the chain with out a swing arm with an adjustable axle slide....

xtreme, youre right, I wasnt thinking about that, forgot that XB-1125 had single spot mounts, not like the tubers that had adjustment. My bad.

That GSD setup is neat, and cheap

I drag race with a belt, no problems yet with it. 92 passes last season with 8-9k launches.

Thats great puzzled, and I, too, dragged on the belt for some time.
BUT it doesnt change the fact that there are better gearing options and the fact that the guy (original poster) wants to change gearing.

Im not trying to be a dick about it

That is what the link is for, I changed gears with a belt for far less than a chain conversion. Currently I have six gear choices. Granted I did the work myself however I can't see it being to outrageous cost wise to duplicate what I did. My pics would serve as a rough outline for some ideas.

i dont think anyone was debating the strength of the belt system, the issue is lack of gearing options.

ive heard of the possibility of changing main gearing inside of the transmission, but again, it seems like more trouble than its worth.

because of the 1125's such broad powerband, i find it less important to choose the right gear or discover that im in between gears when im riding on the racetrack. i dont mind lugging the engine, because i know ive got twice as much torque to launch out of the corner than the 600cc IL4 that i just passed. switching gears for my bike has always been somewhat optional.

if the 1125 was an IL4, gearing i think would be much more important based on the smaller powerband given a certain RPM operating range.
