Went out for a ride today, and a couple of times under heavy braking the oil light would come on. I remember JJudder mentioning in a thread a while back that his does it too. I checked the oil but its just to hit and miss, i normally just do the oil change and put the correct amount in and dont worry. But i added 300ml today and still not showing on the •••••• dipstick. Anyone else get an oil light under heavy braking ? | ||

I've had mine come on, briefly, during braking. Only when the morning is pretty cold though. | ||

Oil light comes on if oil pressure is low, when you brake hard, the oil can move fast enough that the pump will loose pressure for a moment. | ||

I've had mine come on and go off under hard braking. I've checked the oil and had it happen on the ride home from the dealership after a service. I turned around and had them check it, I was still good. The way the pick up is set up sometimes under hard almost endo hard braking, the oil can "run" away. It's not a big problem (as long as you have the correct amount) because the oil leaves the pick up area and returns before a problem can arise. The sensor takes a bit to reset. If the sensors can on at every split second the systems on all bikes would go nuts! Anyways, just make sure you are checking the oil level correctly and it has the right amount in it. The oil checking procedure is a really frustrating part of the Helicon motor. I don't like not knowing 100% if I have the proper oil level. Like alot of guys, I do the 3,000 mile oil level check by replacing the oil and adding 3 quarts. In between, I just hope it's not burning oil and I might add a 6-8 ounces at some point just for peace of mind | ||

I was getting a brief flash of the oil light under heavy braking on my '08, and that was filling the crankcase by the book. The next oil change I did, I just poured in 3 quarts (instead of 2.7 or whatever the manual called for) and I have never seen the oil light come on again while riding. | ||

The best way I've found to check the oil level is to put a rod through the rear axle, supported on both sides by jack stands, making sure that the absolute straight up and down vertical position can be determined by slightly leaning the bike to the left and right so that the vertical position can be maintained by turning the handlebars one way or the other so that the vertical position holds and the oil level can be checked. It should be mentioned that the difference between the left and right leaning position of the bike from vertical with this setup is approx 1/8 inch on the dipstick! It's that critical!!! | ||

I check while sitting on the bike and I check it in the morning before I go on my ride. I put 2.7 or 2.8 real close to 3 and it comes in perfect for me only on cold check and the bike straight up and down. | ||

Thank God we dont ride 2008 plus CBr1000r they have ring seal problems right now and Honda wont issue recalls. Some guys are riding only 1500 miles and the bikes are burning 3 quarts. I almost over-filled my 1125 by having the bike on a rear stand during an oil change. Poured in almost 3 quarts and nothing on the stick. Then realized that the stick is toward the back of the engine. Took the stand out, stood bike up straight, and the oil level was just right. |
