Which way do you turn the oil filter to remove it? Do you turn it towards the back of the back or towards the front? Whoever installed the last one over did it. Now most of the filter has been eaten away by various removal methods so there's only a little left at the top. Any chance I will be able to get this out without screwing up the installation point? I have 2 strap wrenches from craftsman but can't seem to get a grip on the remains of the oil filter. I think I might buy some channel locks to see if I can get hold of the filter. Just frustrating that the PO felt the need to crank it on so tightly. |

Whew - got the filter off with the help of some HUGE channel lock pliers. Now on to removing those horrible nuts on the left foot peg assembly for tranny fluid change. |

All you have to do is loosen the peg arm to get to the bolts - 27 torx. EZ |

What EZ said. The first 3 or 4 times you do it, those nuts are tough, but once you get a method down, it becomes quite easy. You'll need extensions and a U-joint for your ratchet. |

Whew - got those off too. What a PITA LOL. Now I can drain and change the trans fluid. Think I am going to have to hit Ace to buy new nuts - I did a number on the surface areas with the socket - get slipping off - ugh! |

Get locking nuts. Losing a foot peg mount while riding may lead to undesirable results. |

The first time the primary fluid is hard, but with a u-joint and extension you shouldn't have an issue. One trick with oil filters is when you tighten/loosen then, move the strap wrench as close to the bike as possible, the top part of the filter has more integrity than the bottom. The filter can be tightened hand tight and not leak so there are lots of idiots out there. |

To make this easier - use threaded rod nuts and lock washers. EZ |

Auto supply stores have those cup-shaped oil filter removers that snap onto a ratchet. I use one and it works great. Tell them that you need the small size that fits the Scion X-A |

I have a small strap wrench that doesn't get small enough for the XB/Blast filters. My solution has been to get a thick shop rag, cram it between the strap wrench and the filter, and go. I can usually get enough grip this way to remove small filters. I really should get a smaller strap wrench, though... |
