Do both of these go into the catch can?? http://i558.photobucket.com/albums/ss28/jkgonzo/x1 001-1.jpg So I need to get a 'T' fitting and tie these together and then plug it in to the can.....Does the can need to be lower than where the hoses come out the head?? Thanks for the help guys.............. (Message edited by jkgonzo on April 07, 2011) (Message edited by jkgonzo on April 07, 2011) |

Yes both hoses go into the catch can and yes the can (and routing of the hoses) need to be lower than where the hoses come out of the head. Make sure that you don't pinch the hoses otherwise you might shoot tranny fluid out your clutch cable... True story - saw it happen! 1313 |

I've seen pics of some hoses that sure don't flow down to the can.......what happens if the hose goes up than down?? Wouldn't the oil just 'gravity' back where it came from? or once it's out......it's out?? |

use this STYLE of breather kit and u only need to have 1 hose. Dont know if this will fit your X1 but you at least know what your looking for now...... if you want to go this route...... you can just run it out the back without a catch if you want..... http://compare.ebay.com/like/170603269905?var=binl v<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&rvr_id=2237 11471893&crlp=1_263602_325012&UA=WVF%3F&GUID=c1cce 8171280a0b5844700f7fff903df&itemid=170603269905&ff 4=263602_325012 (Message edited by BeltFedMan on April 07, 2011) |

http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/5623.html This setup works great. If you try to T those two lines behind an intake you will probably kink the lines. I ran mine to this: http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/5624.html |

Speaking of catch cans. What are you guys getting out of your catch cans. My old system used to vent to the ground. I did not like that the underside of the bike was all greased up. I put the catch can from American Sportbike on. Now I must drain it after every tank. This winter I got my rocker box gaskets replaced and now I think I have to empty it more. What I get out seems to be a foamy gas. It has a milk color to it. You would think that with all that I get my oil tank would be filling too, but it is not. I actually added a half quart today to bring it up to the middle. I talked to the dealer last year and they said it was normal. |

A milk like or milk shake like goo is water mixed with oil. You can get water in the case from condensation, riding in the rain and washing your bike. I'm new the Buell world but not to motorcycles,so I'm not sure on how much is normal to see over any given time or distance. I would like to know what is normal. |

i keep my oil level just at the bottom line with the bike on the sidestand. i use a dyna filter (holds about 40%-50% more oil than the stocker)....if i put more oil than that in it, it just blows it out the vent....ymmv |

About the hose going up then down, I run all my crank vent lines to the ground (no catch can) on my Buell and two Harleys. All three lines go up first, then down to the rear of the bike and I've never had any issues. |

Mine all go down. With that said, I would not want what I get in my catch can going back into the engine. |

For "SAFETY" the most important breather to run to a catch container is the TRANSMISSION HOSE, why you ask ??? If it PUKES oil on your rear tire you will understand right after wards !!! EVERY BREATHER HOSE(independently, ie: no Y's or T's) ON YOUR BIKE SHOULD BE RUN TO A CATCH CONTAINER !!! That means the GAS TANK VENT HOSE(removed the check ball in mine), HEAD BREATHER HOSE'S(if if you run them into the intake track it pollutes the intake charge), TRANSMISSION HOSE(for "SAFETY", also if you have them the timing plug hose breather and crank case hose breather ... Mine all go down. With that said, I would not want what I get in my catch can going back into the engine. True, but if the hoses go up that sludge is only going to drip back to whence it came, and not fed into the throttle body or carb like that stock setup. Those horseshoe-style breather hoses won't work on a stock airbox. My hoses t-off between the cylinders and then ron over to the other side of the bike. Haven't had any issues with it. As far as what's normal, it really just depends on the bike and the kind of riding, but don't be surprised if you get a good amount coming out. |

The XB vent hoses run straight up without issue. There's a pretty good amount of positive pressure on that hose. Enough to push gook up hill. I believe that straight down or up and over are both ok. |

Why no T's (or Y's)? Can it be so critical to route the hose correctly? That seems a bit "over the top" (like my breather's hose...) I'm willing to compromise perfection for looks now and again. What percentage of expunging performance lost by the hoses going up? 30% 50%? 75% Who cares!? (Well, not to be rude, I just mean to say, it's just not that important to me.) I can't recall any case of upward hose routing causing any problem. Anything has to be better than the stock setup where it goes DOWN the carburetor. This question comes up frequently, everybody has a slightly different solution. Yay, Buell! |
