Ran across a site that has a shim kit for $70. It comes with 84 shims in it and it's listed as being good to go with the 1125 series. Wondering if anyone has tried this before? http://www.procycle.us/bikepages/ktm.html Being here in Germany I really don't want to try to deal with the hassle of going to a dealership here much less paying euros for the shims that are $$$$. |

Yea, my question...are they the proper hardness and is the depth of hardness good enough to handle the pounding. Would REALLY hate to have one (or more) wear thru a thin hard surface layer and then go into self destruct soft material... Almost seems to be one of those..."too good to be true" type things..!? I dunno. That's why I'm wondering if anyone has used them. I really don't like paying what HD charges for them anyways. And we could argue about hardness and such because you're getting it at HD, but then have you seen what they charge for a single bolt? I can go to ACE and get Grade 8 bolts (same stuff HD sells for the bikes) for 10x less that what they charge. Think about much a shim probably costs... |

Ryan, shims are ~$3.50 ea IIRC. I have a couple of customers that ride KTMs - KTM charges $9+ or something, for the same shims. Same shims the V-Rod uses, they've been out there since 2002 working OK. After doing mine twice now, I think I'll give them 24k this time. They wear VERY little/slowly. Z |

I will be due for a valve check in a couple months. I have a friend that is a Ducati Mechanic. I am leaning toward having him do the work rather than the HD dealer. This kit will come in handy. (Message edited by tpoppa on April 07, 2011) |

I also use Hotcams in my v-strom very good quality and it's great having all the sizes right there to fine tune the gap. Mike |
