Last thursday I took possession of an 08 1125R with 4295kms on it .By Tuesday and 800 odd kays , the bike has broken down. The battery has gone dead .Someone said the altinator or the regulator is faulty ,and the Harley mechanic has suggested the stator has gone. Oil is seeping from the clutch protector knob and fuell spills onto the exhaust pipe.I get the impression that this stator is going to have to be replaced every 5,000 kays or so . Is this to be the norm? handles sweet |

If fuel is dripping on your exhaust, you don't have one of several recalls we had. I have an 08 also, with 26k miles, all mine... Have your dealer check into the recalls for you. There is a kit to fix the clutch dribble - p/n X2086.1AM Get an Erik Buell Racing race ECM and the engine will be smooth and run cooler. Best of luck mate. Z |

The 08s don't have stator issues like the 09s do. It's a smaller stator. This means that you probably shouldn't run around with your high beams if you're sitting idling in traffic, and you may need to watch voltages if you have a lot of electronic gear. The early 08s *do* have an IC issue that drains the battery, though. Symptoms include "Let it sit for 2-3 days and it won't start." There's a tech notice on this, and I had no trouble getting mine replaced once I found a good dealership. It's also entirely possible that your battery is just old and dead. The IC issue is especially hard on batteries, because it will deep discharge them. Do this a few times, and you can severely impact the capacity of a battery. I'd replace the battery and keep tabs on it. If it's draining the battery in a few days, have the dealership replace the cluster. It's *possible* the stator is shot, but if it is, it's a one-off failure, not the same type of issue the 09s have. The clutch weep is a known issue and you should be able to get it dealt with easily under warranty. The fuel dripping onto the exhaust pipe should have been dealt with by a recall that apparently hasn't been done. There's also a clutch spring recall that needs to be done, and possibly a few others. Local Buell-friendly dealerships can help you out. The 5k mile stator life is *only* on the 09s. The 08s don't have the same problems. And ++ to "Get the Erik Buell Racing race ECU." It improves the bike in every way. |

Firstly , thanks for all the advice. I'm not much of a mechanic. The Harley dealership told me all the recalls had been tended too.I'll get them to look at it again.The weeping isn't bad and I'll get them on to it . They've told me there's a list that records all the recalls on each bike. Is it possible ,if it exist with Buell ,to get a copy of it to cross reference with the dealership. Considering they have told me the recalls have been done and the evidence of the fuel dripping on to the exhaust being a recall and not being done, I'd say I'll have to get my confirmation elsewhere . Thanks once again fellas and felleresses . To let you know it has not put me off the bike.This bike has an X factor about it. In those few days it was enough to make me realize this beast makes me look effen well a good rider lol. |

Welcome to the world of the 1125r, but don't lose faith dear sir...Every bike has problems and this one is especially worth it. I used to burn over a qrt of oil on a track day on my 08 cbr1krr and Honda said it was expected and normal. These issues have been fixed ! |

Sandmacker - PM me your VIN and I'll check thru H-Dnet. I work at a dealership in Colorado, dunno if this works for international bikes tho. With your VIN I should be able to see what recalls have been completed. Also, you might post some pix of the front brakeline, we can tell if that one's been done, visually. Your fuel-vent-line should be re-routed to the left rear pegmount(passenger peg) Not CLUTCH spring, sidestand spring/oil dipstick/vent-line re-route was one recall. Zack |

She's just been picked up today . I rerouted the fuel line over this braided line for now. As soon as I get it back I'll post the VIN number. I would say that there would be a trace as the recall is financed by the maker yes ?As for losing faith? I doubt it. I spent 3 months pondering on what would be the best bike for my sort of riding, which is hammering between 100 > 200 odd kph through the Adelaide hills. I'm an old fart(54) but I do appreciate a spirited squirt through the twisties, and the Buells characteristics has jelled with my riding style well. I give the R1's ,gixers, and the like a good push on the TRX 850, and the Buell is just so much faster in the tightyet alone on the straights . My gixer 1000K2 and TRX burn a shit load of oil on the road, but I do give them a hiding LOL. Anyhow's , I'm off to the track (mac park SA)for a riders cornering course for the weekend . A 450 kay trip ,on the bike (TRX),give the thing run around the track and learn what alot of you'se fellas get into . Probably get bitten with the bug and then the ride home. Your never too old I say |

I have to say it: I told you so! I'm kidding of course. But don't completely believe what your dealer tells you! My advice is listen to your dealer but always confirm what they say is true. When my friend bought his '08 1125R back in 2009 (the bike is now mine), this very reputable dealer told him in no uncertain terms that ALL THE RECALL ITEMS were completed. A week after getting the bike, his kick stand fell off--during a ride!! I was riding next to him and the damn kick stand was hanging down! That's when he decided to take the bike to ANOTHER reputable dealer nearer home to confirm what the selling dealer told him. Guess what? NONE of the recall items were ever done to the bike! Weeping clutch cover requires the new clutch cover, master cylinder, and other newer parts that prevent the leakage from occurring. These new parts have the telltale larger clutch cover puck. Look closer at 2009 clutch cover pucks and you will see the difference. Dying battery on 2008 1125's is due to a defective instrument cluster that draws too much power with power off. An easy way to confirm that your cluster is the newer 2009 is by checking if you have a gear indicator. '08's do NOT have gear indicators. I believe these two fixes above are warranty repairs and NOT recalls. However, now is a good time to make sure all the other recall items were done. Once all these items are rectified you bike will be reliable. Luckily, the fixes are easily done if you know what they are. Unfortunately, few dealers know exactly what they are!!!! They'll spin their wheels trying to figure out what needs to get done while other dealers that work mostly on Buells know exactly what they are! It's a frustrating deal that my friend went through! It took him the whole year of 2009 to get all the parts and work done as issues came up. Luckily for me, I got the bike AFTER these things were rectified. So far, my 08 1125R has been stone ax reliable. I do have to ride her more and spend more time with her. That will happen as soon as the rainy season ends here in SoCal. |

And, yes, once the recalls are done, they're quite sweet. I have an 08, and I'd *much* rather have the 08 quirks that are easily fixed than an 09 with the perpetual stator issues. I've got 20k on mine so far, and I'd take it across the country on a moment's notice. The "Yeah, yeah, all recalls, we fixed everything, flash is up to date..." BS is common. I heard it when I bought mine. The first time I took it to another dealership, there was an ECU flash, and I think another recall that was done... Also, the Erik Buell Racing Race ECU totally transforms the throttle response on the bike. It's worth absolutely every penny, even with the stock exhaust. And if you're riding in traffic & want to be seen, the XBLights rear tail light takes the light from "Hey, a bike is stopping ahead" to "WHAT IS THAT BRIGHT THING????" |

The XB Lights are a great upgrade to the OEM tailight that is simply a crime! Okay it works fine but it's so cheap and weak. I went with the Ecliptec LED tail light upgrade from American Sportbike. Still pricey at $134. Sandmacker, here is an Australian equivalent of American Sportbike: http://www.srwmoto.com/ The co-owner is a fellow Bueller and is an active poster. I bought my first Ecliptec rear tailight LED conversion from him. I was so happy with that LED tailight conversion I bought another one from American Sportbike as a gift to a fellow Buell rider, and one for my 1125R.
