First off YouTube videos help a little. I don't want extra power gains. I'm looking for sound. I don't want keda,hawk,barkers,Hr1,d&d. . I'm between fmf hmf jardine. The fmf seems to have that low deep grunt tone that I'm looking for. Jardine and hmf seem to male alot of noise but have no tone. It's hard to decide. Needing help. The fmf is cheaper than the other two but I want loud deep roar! Not alot of loud raspy engine noise.
Only problem is I can't seem to find the FMF in carbon anymore... it seems they discontinued that and went to a Ti body and carbon tip, which imho, looks bad on the 1125.
The carbon FMF has problems with falling apart and short service life, requiring repacking pretty much every time you change your underwear. The metal cans are more durable.
I'm not a fan of the FMF after having one. I liked the sound and the look, but it blew the exhaust onto the bottom of the swingarm, right where the rear brake line ran, and the heat bubbled the plastic coating on the line.
I would also watch for any other system that does anything similar.
The sound I think you want is going to come from systems with a glass-packed oval can and a 2" turn out. I can think of three off hand. There might be more. You would have to decide which underslung can system based on how much you want to spend. That would narrow your YouTube search. When I was doing this I just typed in Buell 1125r Exhaust and found what I wanted to listen to easily enough.
If, after you install it, you think it just isn't raw and rowdy enough, gut the muffler.
I have an fmf with the carbon can, and have had no issues what so ever. Its quite loud without the insert, but the ebr ecm does make it a little less noisy. It sounds like hells angels when your getting on it and lots of compliments as well.It def. pisses people off when your idling next to them, it sets off cheap car alarms to.
I'm very happy with my stainless Torque Hammer. It definitely produces a great 'tone'. The builders refer to it as a 'dark' tone, which is probably a funny translation from their native language, but it fits.
Not a specific tune, we will be at the dyno towards the end of this month to test it. Stock ECM, drummer tuned ECM, and most probably a HMF tuned ECM too. Will definatly be posting the results up.
I like loud and deep. The hmf I really like the looks of the fmf not so crazy but love the deep grunt!! The hmf fr YouTube videos sounds like loud volume engine nose and raspy compared to fmf.
The only design blemish with APH is that hanger mount welded to the side of the can. With that were more hidden. Otherwise its a real beauty.
the welds can be polished, my daytime job is making race car exhausts so i'm more into what works right and won't break rather than just show, if you know what i mean the ebr ehaust has a hanger strap all the way round it. i am looking into getting a specific ebr tune somewhere along the line, its all time, which i'm very short of
Buelldr, i had a HMF before i got the APH, the build quality is like chalk and cheese, the sound is similar, but not quite as obnoxious as the HMF and it is deeper.
So between HMF and FMF which one sounds deeper to you? and is the FMF louder than the HMF, on the shootout the HMF was not tested so going by what you have heard? Also anyone know of a cheap place to buy the FMF? I do plan on buying the K&N at the same time too.
My bike before my crash, IMO the HMF looks out of place, and if i had it on when i low sided it would of scratched my swingarm, possibley totaled it along with the exhaust as well.
Buelldr -- the HMF is most definately NOT raspy. It's nice and deep. Haven't heard the FMF, so I can't compare there. The Jardine is really raspy though. 2 techs at the local HD (no Buell service though) that own 1125s bought them and regretted it after hearing my HMF and another guys D&D (which is too freakin' loud IMO, but the HD guys liked it for some absurd reason).
yes I have a fmf and ebr ecm I could sell I am in Canada so the postage will be higher then in the USA. The pipe was carbon fiber but the side blew out and fmf fixed it but changed it to alum it has very low hours on it. pm me a offer. Mike
Thanks anyways for the offer to buy yours. Im going to pass for now until I decide. I want loud, deep, roar!!! The problem is the videos dont do the pipes justice. Ive heard so many negative things about FMF. The videos give FMF a better louder sound. I jus wonder which one is louder, deeper. I appreciate all the help, keep the pics, comments coming.
I would stand clear of the fmf, the product for the street is just not up to par. Unsure if the initial design was carried over from off-road applications or what but they seem to just need constant rebuilds and eventually fall apart.
I would steer clear of the HMF. It makes decent power but sounds like ass. If you want a V twin sound the HMF ruins it. I sold mine after about 500 miles and went back to stock...that's how much I did not like the sound. Then I tried out a Barker and it's pretty much what I wanted...nice and deep with a crisp V Twin sound.
General question. I noticed the fmf comes in titanium with a cf endcap or carbon fiber with a titanium endcap. Any differences in the two other than just looks. The only Place I've seen selling the cf with titanium endcap is Buell Parts but they ate 100$ over what everyone else is selling for.
Mountain -- amazing how people are polar opposites on the same exhaust. I love my HMF, and nobody has had anything but good things to say about the sound. Had a D&D, and it was stupid loud. A couple local guys have the Jardine, and they're unhappy 'cause of the rasp.
I have the FMF exhaust on my 1125CR, It looks great and sounds great too. Like you were saying I like the deep roar from that exhaust. I bought mine from motorcycle usa and they shipped it in a matter of days. At the time it was on sale 20%. The only regret I have is having purchased a power commander V for it, at the time IDK about Erik Buell Racing ECM but too little to late. Even with the PCV the bike runs like new, better idling, no rough parts or dips on the rev range.
The only thing you have to keep in mind is that this exhaust is as loud or slightly louder than the others, this is somewhat of a problem for me because i have to go to work at 4:30 am when I was in the states.
So it was an easy choice for me, cheaper than others, good quality, deep roar, and in my opinion it looks better than all the others. And i too used youtube videos to somewhat help me make my decision and the sound IS different. So happy buying!!!
Im thinking im going to buy from biohazard cycle.com its 428$ and free shipping. So far its the cheapest price I can find, I also have noticed all anyone has in stock is the Titanium with CF end cap. I wanted CF with Ti endcap but oh well this looks pretty cool to. If anyone knows of a better place to buy a cheaper one please let me know.
