Jbolt, sounds to me like your idle is just a tad high, the idle is pretty sensitive. Try adjusting it down just a tad. |

agreed, also did you reset the TPS? Do that first, then set your idle. |

I was under the impression the race ECUs held a 2000 RPM idle when cold to help warm the bike and oil up faster. I'm actually looking forward to that feature. Make sure it's not intended behavior before you go trying to muck about with it. As for altitude, there's simply no getting around the fact that you make less power up higher. There's less air pressure, which means less oxygen, which means less magic to make fuel go "FWUMPH" in the cylinders. Fortunately, modern fuel injection systems compensate for it as well as they can. You can't get around the lack of air unless you go to forced induction (turbocharger or supercharger), but they do alter the fueling to match the air density. Old carburetors couldn't do this - they measure air by volume, not density, so they get increasingly rich as you get higher. This is why you had to rejet them for the altitude. Fuel injection does this automatically, so you only suffer the loss from the lack of pressure, not the loss from being increasingly rich at altitude. Though it is always funny watching old bikes try to start at 11k ft. They don't always like it. ... and 4k ft. :-P I'd love to be riding in air that thick. |

Sorry, a couple of questions got buried in the thread and went unanswered!
quote:It's just the regular race ecm, not an Erik Buell Racing ecm. Should I send it off to them prior to installing it for preprogramming or should it be good to go?
I say YES! it's pretty cheap for you get, it's vastly improved over the old race ECM, and you get to support Erik Buell Racing- win, win, win!
quote:So if you have a RACE ECM you can send that to Erik Buell Racing and they will put the new map in it for $50 plus shipping?
Yes, but it MUST be the old P&A Race ECM, stamped "For Race USe Only" on it. |

The idle is usually normal by the time I reach the end of my driveway. The idle goes down to normal when it's warm. But only after it's in gear and moving. As for the altitude thing, I just need to move to somewhere sealevel. |

Mine goes back to 1050 idle RPMs after warming up even if it hasn't been put in gear. I went to higher altitude this weekend and didn't have any problem. Thats where i was riding in high gear low RPMs and it just pulled great. I only have 4500 miles and I also have the breather reroute. Don't know if this makes that much of a difference. |
