I found a pic firemanjim had posted of an S2 with all black paint, soon as I saw it, I wanted mine painted black! Not sure why it was not offered as a stock color. Here is the before and after paint on my bike.. Before, with original paint:
After with basic black paint job:

Hello Trouble_enabler, I saw the pic that Fireman posted and wanted my S2 to be Black as soon as I saw it too......your S2 looks GREAT and the choice of decals is perfect. What black paint did you use? |

Thanks! I'm not sure about the paint...I had it done at a reputable fiberglass repair shop in my area.

There was ONE Black S2 that was done for a friend of Erik's . . . it as ALL black. For photos see 25 YEARS OF BUELL. |

Thank you for posting the additional additional pics! I am going to start the process of finding a reputable fiberglass repair shop in my area and am considering going with the white frame/white wheels and black body after seeing how GREAT your S2 looks. |

If you don't find one . . . one of the fellows who did body work at Buell is starting to do some for private folks. I haven't visited with him in a while but if there is any interest I can run him down and see what he's up to. |

The S2 that was black that Court is talking about had a black frame I think. |

For photos see 25 YEARS OF BUELL. Court, I supplied the photos of the all black S2, but they weren't used in the book. Only the Yellow S2 by the 2815 building being built and the S2 tank testing pics were used in the book. I guess the pics of the all black S2 hit the cutting room floor...
Black bikes are beautiful! 1313 |

>>>I supplied the photos of the all black S2, but they weren't used in the book. You are ABSOLUTELY right . . . I have the entire "SPECIAL BUELLS" chapter laying here . . it wasn't so much "cut" as it was the victim of hitting the right "multiple" of number of pages (I think they work in 32's) . . I also have a couple GREAT chapters that got nixed including the full chapters on the guitars and the bicycles. . That is a GREAT looking S2. |

Court, many talented people are leaving NE Ohio during this "economic downturn" and hopefully I can find someone there. Thank you for the offer and I will let you know if I can't find one. |

Buell, in all his visionary thinking, made qute a few mistakes. One, the most important one, was not to embrace the H-D connection by making a Buell-Harley, as in Egli-Kawasaki or Bimota. The less important one was to go the Liberace route with easter egg colors. Colors for the S2 should have been black, black and orange, gunmetal gray, and Parkway Blue, all of them with a black or nickel-plated frame. |

I like the black! And basic black is great. However, one of the bikes at the S2 Roundup was black, I thought. Was it only black in shadow and blue in the sun light? Painting has moved up my priority list since Saturday night. And I need a spider and a dash.

OK, let me rephrase that. Does this "Midnight blue" look black with a subtle tinge of dark blue? Is it stock? What is the formula to make it? http://battlecreek.craigslist.org/mcy/2294509009.h tml (Message edited by Sportyeric on April 13, 2011) |

Eric, that is a factory color. The color is Black Sapphire. It is made up of black base coat, with House of Color blue pearl on top. Color shifts from black to midnight blue to dark purple. Loren |

That's the one. Thanks Loren. I found the thread where you spoke of finding the paint. Once the dust settles here, I'll be considering trying to source that colour if I don't just buy another bike. There's a Black Sapphire one in Michigan right now. |

I think the black looks great with the white frame. The white frame looks great in my opinion. It's just too damn beautiful to tone down. I have the urge to paint my S2T frame a contrasting color one day. I'm thinking that black with a red frame would be pretty cool. A little ducati-ish but oh well. |
