I have both the factory clubmans, and the high bar kit. The clubmans were pretty extreme. Seemed further forward than even my XBR. The highbar is great around town but I hated them out on the highway because they sit far to upright. I looked for a few months at modifying the clubmans so that they were at the same angle but closer to the tank. Eventually I came across the old thomselli (spellling?) adjustable clubmans and I wondered if there was a modern version. Quick google search led me to Omars dirt track racing just down the road from me. I bought their adjustable clubmans after a short phone conversation. I finally got them installed over the weekend. The clamp area on the bar is 7/8. I'm using 2 sets of 26 MM handlebar shims from the bicycle store for now. Just doubled them up and tightened the clamp down. Next week I will get a true 7/8 to 1 1/8 one piece shim made. I was told it wont be very expensive. I painted them too. Couldnt handle the chrome. No way. I had originally planned to powder coat them. A local guy has dome some work for me in the past, a muffler tip for my truck was only $20. I figured the bars would be less, but he wont available for 2 weeks so I just sprayed them myself. The bars can be moved up or down inside the clamp, and the clip ons can be moved forward or pulled back toward you. Pretty much unlimited adjustability. I think the high bar cables are necessary though, a few different positions that I attempted strained the clutch line pretty bad. Overall, I'm happy. I have them set forward of the highbar, but further pullback than the factory clubmans. Best of both worlds!

The bars a a lot wider than either of the factory options. So the high bar cables are a must. I'm looking into getting a different clutch and brake setup (suzuki fits?) So I can slide the resevoir closer to the cluster and bring the controls inward. As it is, both resevoirs run into the adjuster bolts on the bars, and force everything out wide. |

The OEM clutch and brake MCs really suck because of the integrated res. It makes for a pita with various clip-on options as well as most of them won't work, including the E-BR option (on the brake side), without a few minutes in the mill. I ended up going with the Brembo RCS19 brake MC and RCS16 clutch res. It's a spendy solution to the problem, but also a nice upgrade to the performance of the OEM parts. And, if you drop your bike, the parts guy at the track carries Brembo half levers... |

Hey Jim, that brembo setup is nice but I thought that another oem setup worked and was cheaper than the brembo? Has the same measurement (mm) but has a vertical res as opposed to our horizontal res. I could be wrong but I thought I read that here on badweb... |

Actually, there's probably any number of MCs that would work well. The brake is 19x18, I think, and the clutch is a 16... Anything with a remote res should work. The reason I went with the Brembo setup is it wasn't much more than buying new OEM parts from Suzuki. |
