The Snake is a much better ride than the congested tourist trap Dragon, a destination for Goldwings, tractor trailers, cops.... http://www.shadyvalleycountrystore.com/ |

Lucky you! I had a blast there last summer. Is this going to be your first time there? |

Cycledoc, is that hwy 421? There are much better roads than the dragon, near Robbinsville. The dragon just has the most curves in the shortest distance. |

We'll arrive on Thursday April 14th, sometime in the afternoon. Yes, it's my first time there. We will be riding other roads in the area also. I'm not sure where. |

Yes, the "Snake" is 421. The Dragon lost it's charm about 5 years ago; heavily patrolled now, very dangerous with vans, vacation families, nuts in Miata's/Minis, then the occasional 45 foot flatbed that blocks from ditch to ditch... Not too bad weekdays, but best to hang at the store on weekends, buy T shirts, listen to the bench racing tales, inspect gravel rash and take and the obligatory pic of the "tree of shame" Here's a Wild Ride, starting near The Dragon, and winding up back there: ("A" is Very Twisty, and so on) A Rt 28 N to Rt 129 (Robinsville) A/B Rt 129 S to Rts 19/74-29miles B Rts 19/74 E to Wayah Rd (SR 1310) A Wayah Rd (SR 1310 to stop sign -29miles D/C Rt64 E past Franklin to Cullasaja-9miles A Left (east) on Elijay Rd. to Speedwell-17 miles. C Rt 107 N (Left) to Rt 116 - 5 miles B Rt 116 W to Rts 23/441- 4 miles D/B Rts 23/441 S to Franklin - 14 miles A/B Rt 28 N back to Robinsville....... Wayah Road is quite technical, so having a couple of C/D level roads to relax a bit on is a good thing after surviving it... Lots of fun roads in that area, but nothing, Dragon or Snake included, to match the "Triple Nickle" (555) in Eastern Ohio, from Belpre to Zanesville. Or a side trip from 555 to Marietta on 676... Not for baggers or cruisers! |

Guys, If your heading this way be sure to take time and study your map, there are plenty of great roads between the Dragon and the Snake, without the hassle of Johnny Lawman. Y'all should have a great time! |

Cycledoc59, 555 is very unpredictable and dangerous, but very challenging each and every time you ride it, I ride it quite often anyway. I know several skilled riders that choose not to ride 555 and 536 at all. There are several roads in that surrounding area, mainly Northeast of Marietta,OH, that are great roads like 260,255,536,26,556, & 148 just to name a few. I try and get down there as much as possible during the Summer. I would also agree that 421 ("The Snake"), along with some of the other routes around there are great rides. "The Dragon" (US129) is still great to ride, regardless of the traffic and the cops in my opinion. My biggest complaint is the posted speed limit. |

Buellmojo Thanks for mention of the roads I didn't know of in Ohio.... On my first trip north up 555 there's a blind downhill left hairpin over a crest, and a dirt drive straight ahead. I was lucky to go flying down the dirt drive..! Not possible to make the turn; now each year, that's where we take a break, and note the broken parts in the ditch...... |

I don't know why some people think we ONLY ride the Dragon at this event. Always quick to point out that there are other roads in the area. No shit. Can't wait to meet you guys. Have a safe trip. |

Sweet looks like at least 5 1125's this year was 3 last year. Looking foward to pouring some down around the camp fire at night. Hopefully it dries out enough to get a few shake down miles on mine before we leave but the forecast here isn't very promising. |
