I'm new to Buell and this forum but just picked up an 1125r. I have a question: Is there any issues having the bike power washed at the gas station? Anybody have an experience of this? I live in an extremely dusty and hot country and living in an apartment leaves me with few options. Thanks in advance for any replies. G | ||

Stand waay back with the pressure washer so it cuts down the amount of pressure actually hitting the bike. You don't want to be forcing water into certain areas. In order to avoid this problem I just don't wash mine...or maybe that is just because I am lazy.  | ||

I use nothing more forceful than what my garden hose provides. Either that, or doing 70 mph in the pouring rain... whichever is easiest. | ||

A pail of water and rags and cleaning agents. No hose necessary. Caress and bond with your machine. Hoses and such are for cars and dogs. | ||

IF . . . you can get access to a bucket of hot soapy water and a garden hose . . It would be preferable to the pressure washer. I . . . and you'll find as many preferences here as with types of oil. . . always used the washing as an opportunity to go over every nut, bolt and fastener. I shoot the bike with water after covering things like GPS brackets with plastic bags (well aware that if you soak them it's no big deal either) and give it a spray of water. Then I take the bucket of hot soapy water, a sponge and a soft microfiber towel and wash the entire thing. Then I rinse it. The dry (using some caution that you don't incur the same effects as the pressure washer) with either a leaf blower or compressed air and soft towels. When I had a fairly large collection of 9 bikes I used to take my XLCR and my XR-1000 and actually put them in the side yard, toss out an old quilt and lay them on their side so that I could clean the underside of the motor with a toothbrush. I've grown up since then. I seldom wash to "clean" the bike . . more likely for the cathartic effect and the opportunity to give the bike a good going over. | ||

We have cattle on feed-lots here. that means flies. Uh-oh, it's Spring, wonder how bad the Miller moths are gonna be this year... I can deal with dirt, but these bugs start to get lumpy. I got a power washer. 3600psi Briggs and Stratton. Stay away from bearings and electronics. Oh yeah, welcome to the best place for Buells and their owners.  Z | ||

I wouldn't pressure wash my bike, i just use wet microfiber clothes and wipe it down. | ||

Before you ride, a wipe over with turtle wax will make bug removal much easier. Pressure washing can cause lots of damage, it will wear away material and get past seals, into electronics etc. | ||

I used to live in a similar situation with no access to a garden hose. Even being very careful with a coin operated pressure washer, I still managed to blow the fuel tank emblem off of my beemer I had. |
