I have an '08 12R with K&N/D&D. I just noticed Erik Buell Racing is now making ecm's for the D&D. So, I bought one. Now I just have to wait for it to show up.

I was wondering if anyone is running the same combo, and did the ecm make a huge difference. Also, does elevation effect anything on the ecm? I live at 4000ft, the majority of riding I do goes up from there.

So... I was looking around the Erik Buell Racing store and want to purchase an ECM for my bike, but I can't figure out which one I should get.

My XB:

2005 XB12R with Jardine pipe.

I emailed the sales address early last week, but haven't heard back yet.

If Erik Buell Racing doesn't have one yet for your specific setup, just get the generic Race ECM for your bike. If you really want to go nuts, get the programmable one and tune it yourself : )

Thanks Froggy.

Sorry to step into your thread here.

I'm curious as well as to what sort of difference does the race ecm gives.

2nd that... differences?

I've been thinking my '03 9S needs a race ECM with the Jardine and K&N it was equipped with when I got it.

I've got a 2003 XB9s.
D&D, K&N, Iridium plugs with 8mm race pro leads, CIA open airbox. currently running the Buell RACE ECM original version)
Has a serious flat spot around 3k after adding the open airbox, bogs down.
Growls like a wild animal above 4k..

It's about to have a REV PERF. 1050cc bigbore kit installed, with stage 2 NRHS CNC light head work.

Once this is completed, THEN I will be having a custom fuel map, for this setup.

Will post all photos and dyno results once it's up and running.

Cheers

Noone, I had the same problem, but did recieve a reply

For your bike the standard race ECM works properly for the Jardine so a special map is not needed like it is on some other models.
-Tech

I bought the stock race ECM and will find out this week if he was correct.

Does anyone have the ECM For the Drummer SS? Any reports on performance?

I ended up buying the RACE ECM in the classifieds here. Do I need to get this reprogrammed or should it just bolt in then since I have the jardine.

UPS says my ECM is going to be here tomorrow.

I would still like to know what kind of improvement I should expect. My bike runs good already. But it feels a little under powered at this elevation. Every once in a while I go down to Sacramento and it feels like it wants to wheelie all the time. Is that what I can expect here at 4000ft?

i would assume that being at 4000ft would make a little difference in how it runs less oxygen at that altitude but how much i couldn't say

Well, it's here! I installed it, did the reset and let it idle for ten minutes as per the instructions. Won't be able to ride it until tonight. I hope I won't be disappointed because I'm expecting too much. I'll post again after my ride.

Holy crap! This thing is awesome. Smooth all the way through the rpms, no dips or surges. Almost no popping on decel. It pulls harder too, not super hard but noticeable. On the way to work I did an accidental wheelie after shifting into second. Now I can't wait to take it down to lower elevation and see what happens.
The only weird thing is the fan. It comes on and goes off at strange times. I guess I'll get used to it.

Is that what I can expect here at 4000ft?
I doubt it.
I ride at that altitude and higher all the time, and don't see any difference (I have the original Buell Race ECM).

This thing is awesome.
Great news!
I'm saving for an E.B.R ECM now!

That's awesome!
I didn't know they even did such a thing.
I even think I may be able to get my hands on an ECM.
I can't send the one in the bike as I depend on it too much.

Should I send it off to Erik Buell Racing? The only mod I have is a Jardine...

Noone- I'll bet $20 that your bike will run so much better with the Erik Buell Racing ecm!

Andy:

It's just the regular race ecm, not an Erik Buell Racing ecm. Should I send it off to them prior to installing it for preprogramming or should it be good to go?

I thought you had an actual race ECM.
"Had" being the key word there.
You have a good memory!
Mine had a separation between the where the wires go in the ECM itself, a while back.
Took us forever to figure it out since it wouldn't cause any problems long enough to find.
While it was sitting, all was good, all tested well, but riding was a crap shoot.
Good thing about it though, I've been through the entire wiring harness :P

Major glue (epoxy?) on the inside to keep it all weather proof.
Besides, it'd probably take me longer to locate it then it would be to save up for the E.B.R one.
There's no telling if I even have it any longer, it could be out in the garage, it may be over at the Buell Barn...
I'm happy with the way it's running actually, I've just been reading about all the good things about Erik's.
So it's a want not a need at this point.
Traxxion Dynamics will probably get my next $$, I need a rear shock more than anything else at the moment.

When I have gone from home (4000ft) over mountains (8400ft) and into Sacramento (50ft), there is a huge difference in power. If everything stays the same, with this new ECM, I might scare myself a little next time I make it down to Sac.

I have the Erik Buell Racing ECM for the DrummerSS and the K&N open airbox on my 09 xb12r and it is freakin awesome. Rode before and after and it is like a different bike. Hit 120 like it was nothing. Fastest I have ever been on two wheels. Revs really quick. Clears up all low end issues except a hiccup from idle when suddenly "punching" the throttle. Nice smooth idle also. Was disappointed with the bike before the setup now I'm in love with it. Smooth at high gear and low RPMs. Wouldnt change a thing.

Well, I've been riding with the new ECM for almost a week now. Let me tell you, I'm impressed every time I get on it. The only thing the ECM didn't improve is the top-end speed, ha ha. It feels like it gets there right now. Makes me laugh to myself every time.

I still have one complaint though. When I start it, the idle jumps up to 2000rpms and stays there until I put it in gear and down the road a bit. I tried letting it idle until it was warmed up, I thought it would go down to normal idle when warm, the fan comes on but it stays at 2000rpm.

Does everyones ECM do this?
