that's the sound my starter makes when I try to start my 2006 XB12X Ulysses. What should I do? How can I confirm it's the starter or the relay switch? HELP!!! |

Machine gun click, bike wont start? Odds are your clock and tripmeter reset too, dead battery. If the battery is good, possibly a bad ground. |

Those symptoms match mine. Trip reset, clock reset and battery dying. I did notice that my brake light does not work using the foot brake but does work using the hand brake. |

My bike does this when my battery terminals start to get loose. Check em a lot. No matter how tight I make mine, they always find a way to loosen up. |

I had a bad connection where the battery negative connects to the subframe. There was a thread awhile ago that had pictures. Use a star washer between battery tray and subframe or clean paint from the subframe. |

I agree with the comments above but one other possibility is the neutral switch. Try pulling the clutch in when you are getting the machine gun symptom. If it stops then the neutral switch is suspect. Is the neutral light consistently bright or have you seen it change in brightness slightly at times? While it is probably the most unlikely problem it is dead easy to isolate. |

UPDATE!!! I finally got around to working on my Uly tonight and YES, it was the battery connection. I put a new bolt on the positive terminal and it started right up! I love that bike, now all I need is some warmer weather and I'm riding. Thanks for the help guys!!!! |
