Dam BOb I am glad ya kept it upright and safe. Freakin' killer Bambi's! I agree with JOsh on #6... like any of us, we look up and see BOb with one hand on the bars. (hmmmm where is that other hand anyhow?) I'm toying with unloading the Tiger...maybe pickup a V-Strom but I dunno for sure. Trying to find one just to demo is just impossible. How bad off was the wrecked V-Strom? I wonder if its possible to get 'em from the Ins Co? Hmmmm.... ANyhow...I hear the IMS is not comin' to St Louis this year due to low turnout last year (1st day of hunting season?) DAve I have free time if anyone wants to ride. (Anywhere) I may be on that Green Machine. Two Buells taken apart right now. The last thing goin' through the deer's mind? Ummm...saddlebag? |

Brian Niehaus, the service manager, called to say they would have the estimate done within 48 hours and this coincides nicely with the claims person telling me that I would probably not hear from an adjuster for about two days...Brian also said that I would have the Mother Ship back within 30 days, typically and that they replace anything that is the slightest bit damaged...That's good news...I wish we had done that with Pumpkin's fairing brace instead of trying to bend it back in place...A source of continued aggravation...Also, since I always have the bike packed for an immediate escape, it was nice to have a clean set of underwear in the right side saddle bag...Looking back on last night, I (and probably John too) always thought our deer hunting would take place on the letter roads close to our homes, not the interstate...I mean, I saw this deer in plenty of time come over the other lanes and stop in the median...I moved from the one (fast) lane to the three lane and braked down to probably about 45, or so...Deer just stood there...Then, with perfect timing such that there was nothing else to do but run off the road, she sprints for MY side of the road...I am recommending that there be deer performance stats published in "Motorcyclist"...You know, zero to bike in X nano seconds...Okay, so now we have Ron Ayres' testimony and mine...Also, two years ago Russ Heuther had a large dog encounter up by St Charles airport and the last thing he did was WFO...He also rode that one out...I really believe if I had either braked hard at the last or tried another swerve, possibly even into a more massive area of the deer, I would have laid it down...Final conclusion...Really lucky!!!... Thanks, guys, for all the nice words... Bob |

Subject: Do You Really Like Mexican Food? We've been searching for some good Mexican food for a long time and have found some pretty good but not great places...So I recently changed barbers and the new guy's family is from New Mexico but has been here in Eureka for thirty plus years and it turns out he's guite a cook...While discussing food I asked what restaurant he prefers and he tells me of this place in (you'll love this) Fairmont City IL...He says if we go there we'll probably be the only gringos in the place...Well, this evening Shirley, Robyn and I ventured across The River on I-55, turn right at the Fairmont City exit and then left toward Fairmont City...On the right hand side we find Tiendo El Ranchito...A combination grocery, liquor, video and, of course, restaurant...With a "B" sticker on the door...Well, nothing ventured, nothing learned so we enter and, sure enough, we're the only gringos in the place...It's like walking into a place we once ate at way off the beaten path in Cozumel...No AC, little kids, teens and adults all doing their thing...Of course, no one speaks Englise but Shirley, having grown up in San Diego and taking a lot of Spanish in high school and college, is in her element...Robyn had a HUGE borrito that was filled with bits of steak and Shirley had asada, which was also delicious...I ordered chili rellenos, but they were out as that had been their luncheon special...So I settle for tomales...And I get four big, real, corn wrapped tomales...The young man who waited on us immediately removed the "hot" sauce from the gringos table...I immediately retrieved it...The salsa verde was the real deal and so was the pico de gallo...The tortillas were fresh...The refried beans were home made and wonderful...So, if you really like Mexican food this is the place to try...You'll also get a kick out of doing some grocery shopping there...And you get to watch the butcher cutting meat to order while you eat...Shirl said it reminded her of some of the little stores we've shopped at for food supplies on smaller Caribbean islands...And, I bought some molé sauce...On the way home we stopped at TD's about 8 p.m. but no one else showed up...Sorry, Kevin, I didn't know we'd be going there... See Ya! Bob

Hispanic cuisine from New Mexico is unique and very tasty! Roughly for regions in the state, each with a wonderfully unique blend of similar spices and similar cooking techniques but they end up with different tasting dishes. Thanks for the tip. Just tried LaTropicana market, they had excellent rellenos, enchiladas and beans. Didn't try the tortillas but there were two, not one mind you, but TWO badweb beauties shopping there for their hubbies!! Hubba hubba!! Lucky guys lurking out there... |

Well, if you're ever going to see the Aurora Borealis at this latitude tonight may be the night...You probably know we're experiencing the effects of a very significant solar flair (5 on a scale of 5)...So after dark take a stroll outside, preferably in an area of low light (like my house and yes that's an invite)... 314.821.0776 or 636.938.3788 (home) First Saturday to visit Jones Powersports in Columbia MO We will be staying with the 0900 leave time this Sat from the Eureka QT in order to give us time to back road it west to Jones Powersports in Columbia MO, vist the dealership and have lunch and return before zero dark thirty...You may choose to ride all the way or only part and you may choose to slab it back to STL on I-70 or back roads...Jones is a KTM and Ducati dealer...I'll publish the route later...

I got a urge and called Hall's Cycle in Springfield, IL to see if they had the Ducati Multistrada. They did and Jeff (sales) even suggested it was a good day to demo it. So I hit the road and checked them out. It's a nice little place with a friendly staff. They carry Ducati, MV Augusta, Husqvarna, and Gas Gas (never heard of it). I first rode a black '98 Ducati ST2...nice enough. The I rode the red on red Multistrada! What a cool bike. It's butt ugly for sure, but it has great power (wheelies eeeeeeasy) and handles terrific. It doesn't feel top-heavy like my Tiger and feels...well...nimble. After that Jeff suggested (yes his idea) that I ride the dark gray w/red wheels '05 ST4s w/ABS. ....Very nice indeedy. The special financing and no payment for 3 months is incentive. Plus, his prices seem to be pretty damn good too. We talked for a quite a while and I confessed that the maintenance costs were a big concern to me. If I am not mistaken, he said after 12k the valves are checked every 10k miles. They also recommend a little different intervals under 12k but I don't recall the exact miles. It seemed it's simple enough to do myself. Sooooo .... I took the plunge and came home with a new Ducati
